I'm baffled as to why every tournament seems to have to be 'The Championship League'. Traditionally, it's been the one event that has held 0 interest for me.
Switch up the format a bit fellas. Give it a different name. Something!

Back in May, we dubbed it the Covid Classic.
I rather liked that...

What a waste of time. They could have used to this space in the calendar and resources to put on something more worthwhile than this tripe.

This is the proper Championship League. In that, this is it's traditional placement in the calendar. So maybe they just didn't want to change it.
But then again, we've had two of them already in the last twelve months and everything is already set up in Milton Keynes anyway, so you wonder if they couldn't come up with something better. Even a tournament that has the same format as the Home Nations events that's called The Milton Keynes Classic or something would be better than The Championshit League.

They are snooker matches for money, normal rules.
Not that different from the rest of the tournaments.

Well, they try to keep any events going that they can, for contractual reasons. The other 'Championship League' events were completely different formats, and now we have the 'Pro Series' as well.
The formats are devised to spread a little tournament over several weeks, to give the impression of a healthy game. In reality, the majority of players on the tour only have 4 days actual play until the World Championship.

Why can't they hold some old style PTC events?

This basically is a lot of PTCS strung together.
It's snooker. Best of 5s. Normal rules. For prize money. Dave Hendon and Dom Dale in the box.
How is this different from any of the other tournaments last year?
Moaning numpties.

Tournament Format
Matches are best of 5 frames, and the league is played from January to April 2021. The competition runs over eight groups, each consisting of seven players. From each group the top four qualify for a play-off, and the winners of the first seven play-offs qualify for the winners group.Clear as mud

It's basically like eight PTCs, with the winners playing in a PTC finals.
Would you like it better if they'd named the different groups 'Riga Masters' or 'Paul Hunter Classic' etc?
Shut up and watch snooker.

One thing they've ditched from last years - you actually have a winner in these matches. No draws. This is a huge improvement.

Higgins takes it. Now plays Gary Wilson, immediately, after 5 mins off.

No comms on table 2, just the table sound. Much more enjoyable without waffle.
2-2, and Dott 15 up with 13 on in the decider...

Wilson had the points at his mercy but bungked a straightforward pink.
Dott takes the frame with a 41 and a couple of impressive rest shots therein, particularly a tricky red down the cushion.
