Clue: it was a match against who many consider to be Ronnie’s greatest rival.

too late reply lol.
How is that your most painful defeat? I know he was 8-2 down and did so well to recover, but still.... I guess it depends on the person.

After 20+ attempts I finally got there
I would have thought maybe the 2006 Masters final would be deemed as more painful than that match no?

I wasn’t as big a snooker fan then as I was in 2009.
Plus the comeback made it all the more galling. I can’t remember it exactly but I remember Higgins potting a ridiculous thin pot to the green pocket I think, which reeeeeeaallly snake hissed me off.

I remember being gutted he lost, done all the hard work for nothing, would have been one of the most memorable comebacks.
But other defeats have hurt more, namely the 2006 Masters final, 2010 Masters final and of course 2014 world final.

2014’s the obvious one but there was an air of inevitability about it on the second day.
The UK semi I genuinely thought Ronnie would go on to win the match.

I know what you mean, but a world final is still much bigger than a UK Semi. The inevitability factor I also felt it during the 3rd and 4th sessions, but it didn't make it less painful.
