Alternative snooker formats

Postby LC

I love traditional snooker but was thinking of ways to mix it up for a laugh, like moving the colours, so yellow and green on pink and black spots would make for close frames if anything!

All the red balls start off as close to the centers of cushions as possible, among the six cushions :chuckle:

Not in the weird world of stupid hypothetical BS that will never happen!

You can “bank” colours so you don’t have to pot it straight after a red. So you could pot e.g. 5 reds in a row then 5 colours.

Power snooker was invented by German Eurodance group Snap! after they took a snooker table with them on tour. Trying out variants of the game, they came up with Power snooker, and the song 'The Power' became their biggest hit.

The song opens with the spoken Russian "Американская фирма приступила к производству компьютеров „Персональный спутник" which when translated says: 'Power Snooker uses the concepts of the Power Ball, Power Play, and Power Zone. The Power Ball is dark red and is placed in the centre of the diamond rack, identified by a special logo, and is worth two points.'

A purple ball worth 100 points, and you have to play one handed, on one leg and close your eyes 3secs before taking the shot. MJW next WC?

Players have to play all shots that they would normally play with their dominant hand with their non-dominant hand instead.

Ronnie would never lose...

Like that, same for plants, 2 ball plant double points, 3 ball plant triple points, etc. And if on your first attempt to get out of a snooker you snooker your opponent, you get points for the colour of the ball times the number of cushions you hit.

Also making a maximum should win you two frames, and turning down a free ball deducts 7 points from your score.

Serious suggestion, following on from people saying the 'real' final this year was Ronnie v Selby.
Bear with me.

Instead of semi finals and a final, you have one match between all 4 players, over three days.
They start by playing 24 frames. This allows for every possible combination of order of play for the four players.
The two players who have won the most frames out of the 24 continue to play the final, while the other two are eliminated. There would be an additional 25 frames. The earlier frames won count towards the score.

In the event of a tie at the end of the 24th frame, or at the end of the match, an additional frame is played between the tied players. If this is after the 24th frame, the additional frame doesn't count towards the total.
