2020 Betfred World Snooker Championship Prediction Contest

Postby PLtheRef

Welcome, One and all to the 2020 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship Prediction Contest!

After a very different year, the World Championships go ahead three and a half months later than scheduled.

This year marks the 13th World Championship Prediction Contest and marks the eleventh World Championship contest on Snooker Island. Having won the title for a first time, SteveJJ returns to try and successfully defend the title he won last year. SavoMilosevic and Wildey will also be back to try and win an un. Wildey will be back also determined to take his third World Championship prediction title also whilst many others will be seeking to add their names to the SI roll of honour.

The target for all competitiors will be naturally to get more points than the other competitors, however for those who are after a record, 2018 saw SavoMilosevic achieve a tally of 213 in the current format. Alongside that SavoMilosevic won the 2018 contest by 30 points, also the World Championship record.

The roll of honour list is as follows:

2008 - Armchair de Critique/Smart - (606 Forum)
2009 - Casey - (Break-Off)
2010 - Alex0Paul
2011 - Jadechelsea
2012 - Wildey
2013 - Random05
2014 - SavoMilosevic
2015 - McChazzz
2016 - Wildey
2017 - SnookerFan
2018 - SavoMilosevic
2019 - SteveJJWC

Format
The format for the 2019 World Championship Prediction Contest remains the same as previous years. However, with the current circumstances, there are some proposed rules for this year to cater for current circumstances. I would welcome your opinion on these before Thursday so a decision can be made before the tournament starts.

1. Match Winner Predictions:
A Seeded player defeats a qualifier = 6 points
A Seeded player defeats a Seeded player = 7 points
A qualifier defeats a qualifier = 7 points
A qualifier defeats a Seeded player = 8 points

This system will run throughout the tournament.

2. Correct Score Predictions:
Round 1 to quarter-final: correct score = 4 points, 1 frame out = 2 points
Semi-final and Final: correct score = 5 points, 1 frame out = 3 points, 2 frames out = 1 point

You only get the points if you predict the correct winner of the match.

3. Maximum Break Game:
- pick any number of players to make a maximum break
- if a player you've nominated makes a maximum break you get 12 points
- if you nominate a player who fails to get a maximum break you lose 3 points
- if you do not predict a maximum break you receive no points
(A maximum break is defined as a 147 with 15 reds or a 155 with 15 reds + free ball red)

4. Hi Break and Centuries Game:
- Pick a player to score the 2019 World Championship's highest break.
- Pick the Score of the highest break
- Pick the total number of centuries that will be scored in the 2019 World Championship

- If your chosen player scores the highest break you receive 6 points
- If your chosen highest break is correct you receive 6 points with 1 point less for each point out

(E.g. a predicted HB of 145 with a correct HB of 143, receives 4 points)

- If your chosen number of centuries is correct you receive 6 points, with 1 point less for each century out

(E.g. predicted 81 centuries with a correct total of 77 centuries, receives 2 points)

5.Tournament Winner Predictions:
Each entrant may choose any 2 names for overall victory.
12 points for predicting a winner, 6 points for predicting a runner-up.

6. Tie-breaking Criteria
- Most correct predicted winners
- Most correctly predicted scores
- Highest total of bonus points from Maximum break, High Break and Tournament winner)

The deadline for naming your nominations for a 147 maker; Highest break maker, score and centuries; and tournament winners is 10am Friday 31st July

All 31 matches will have their own deadline (start of play) with a template to be posted for all 16 First Round matches on the evening of Wednesday 29th July.

Proposed extra rules for 2020
- Any match which does not take place shall not be scored.
- In the event that a player nominated to make a maximum withdraws from the tournament, no points will be deducted. Should a nominated player be knocked-out of the tournament then 3 points will be deducted as normal.
- Predict your number of centuries on the basis all 31 matches take place. In the event that not all of the matches take place then the number of centuries shall calculated pro-rata to give a total based on 31 matches and scored as normal (E.g. 73 centuries in 29 matches = 2.51 centuries per match x 31 = a total of 78 centuries rounded to the nearest whole number)
- As well as your usual two nominations to reach the Final, nominate a reserve finalist to be added in the event one of your nominated finalists withdraws from the tournament.
- In the event that the World Championship is abandoned, this contest will be declared null and void.

Please can you give your thoughts on these changes and whether you'd like to include them, or run the contest simply as per normal rules.

Good Luck to All Entrants!

That is correct. It would only be used in the event one of your nominated finalists had to withdraw from the event. If they don't then the reserve scores nothing (regardless of if he gets to the Final or not)

Re: 2020 Betfred World Snooker Championship Prediction Conte

Postby PLtheRef

Notice following Anthony Hamilton's withdrawal
Following the withdrawal of Anthony Hamilton from the World Championship and the confirmation that his opponent Kyren Wilson will receive a bye into the second round, obviously only 30 matches will take place.

Please predict the number of centuries still on the basis that 31 matches would have taken place.

At the end of the event, the centuries shall be scored pro-rata on the basis all 31 matches had taken place and scored accordingly.

For example (assuming the remaining 30 matches all go ahead) - 75 centuries in 30 matches = 75 ÷ 30 = 2.50 centuries per match. Multiply this by 31 to get 77.50 (rounded up) the number of centuries would be scored in the contest from 78.

If you have predicted today after the news of Hamilton's withdrawal, on the basis of there being 30 matches, you may adjust your prediction if you wish, as long as you do so by the deadline.

Hope that clear things up.

No they won't. Any match which doesn't take place shan't be scored.
