All-Star World Championship: semi-final matches

Postby Pink Ball

Welcome to the 'semi final' thread of the All-Star World Championship.

Simply nominate up to three semi-final matches that you feel should be included in next week's poll stage (Phase Two). Do not nominate a match that has already been nominated. A maximum of 50 semi-final matches will go forward to Phase Two, at which stage we will whittle the nominations down to two winners.

Deadline is some time next Friday (April 10).

ALL MATCHES NOMINATED MUST BE FROM THE CRUCIBLE ERA (1977-2019)

The nominees so far are:
1980: Alex Higgins 16-13 Kirk Stevens
1982: Alex Higgins 16-15 Jimmy White
1983: Cliff Thorburn 16-15 Tony Knowles
1984: Jimmy White 16-14 Kirk Stevens
1996: Peter Ebdon 16-14 Ronnie O'Sullivan
1999: Stephen Hendry 17-13 Ronnie O'Sullivan
2001: John Higgins 17-15 Matthew Stevens
2002: Stephen Hendry 17-13 Ronnie O'Sullivan
2002: Peter Ebdon 17-16 Matthew Stevens
2003: Ken Doherty 17-16 Paul Hunter
2004: Ronnie O'Sullivan 17-4 Stephen Hendry
2004: Graeme Dott 17-15 Matthew Stevens
2007: Mark Selby 17-16 Shaun Murphy
2010: Graeme Dott 17-14 Mark Selby
2011: Judd Trump 17-15 Ding Junhui
2014: Mark Selby 17-15 Neil Robertson
2017: Mark Selby 17-15 Ding Junhui
2019: John Higgins 17-16 David Gilbert

2004 and 2007 logged, the other one isn't logged. It was already nominated. So if you want to pick one more nomination, go nuts.

2010 Dott 17-15 Selby

Logged. It was 17-14 though, if memory serves me right?

1984 Jimmy White v Kirk Stevens

Would you like this to replace one of your three original picks? If so, which one?

I'll replace Selby v Fu.

Maybe someone else will nominaye that one.

Surprised to see Hendry v O'Sullivan in 1999 hasn't yet been nominated. Eight Centuries across the entire match including five in the third session (of which there were four in consecutive frames)

For my second one I will go with Ding Junhui v Alan McManus in 2016. It might not have been the closest contest at 17-11 but was high quality from both throughout the contest. Especially once McManus got going after losing the opening five frames.

It's been nominated by vodkadiet.

Just noticed. I didn't see it on PB's list originally.

I'll get thinking on the others. - In a lot of cases you find that people will nominate them already
