Match cancelled because table became unplayable?

Postby HustleKing

Just wondering if there has ever been an incident, particularly in the pre-Crucible era, where a match had to be cancelled/postponed because the table became unplayable. This could be because of loose or worn cloth, the table getting bent or warped on one or multiple sides or the table keeling over and a leg/legs breaking off from too much leaning of the players/a player. I know this is a long shot of a question, but it would be hilarious if this happened, even at an amateur level, so anyone recall any such incidents?!

When Cliff Thorburn was closing in on the first 147 at The Crucible commentator Jack Karneham said "They have actually stopped playing on the other table".

I assume the other table had therefore become unplayable...

I think that was actually because they heard Canadian player Cliff Thorburn was closing in on a 147 on the other table. Thorburn went on to make a maximum, the first made at the Crucible.

Jimmy White (1992), Stephen Hendry (1995, 2009, 2012), Ronnie O'Sullivan (1997, 2003, 2008), Mark Williams (2005) and Ali Carter (2008) have since compiled Crucible maximums.

A Crucible qualifying match between Graeme Dott and Jimmy Michie a few years ago had to be continued on another table, as the one they were playing on was deemed not fit for purpose.

Michie had taken a 3-1 lead on the rubbish table, but Dott turned things around once they were moved to a better table to lead 6-3 after the first session.
