Route to the final

Luke Simmonds
Ken Doherty
Zhou Yuelong
Jack Lisowski
Martin O'Donnell
Tom Ford

A relatively tame draw is to be expected when you get results like the following in the early stages of the competition:

Last 16 - Best of 11
Judd Trump (ENG) 4-6 Joe Perry (ENG)

Well in that case allow me to add even further flesh to the bones.

It was the win that put him on top of the Triple Crown winners list, nobody has won more of what matters than Ronnie O'Sullivan and this was the win that confirmed it as fact. A proud sporting achievement indeed.

Hendry and Davis have won more of what matters, the World Championship

This.

So nothing else matters apart from the World Championship?

Just warm up tournaments for the big one

I agree, they are. Doesn't mean they aren't important in their own right though.

No, but the World Championship is the tournament that matters the most.

Nobody is disputing this.

Hendry’s haul of 18 including 7 world titles matters more than Ronnie’s haul of 19 with 5 world titles, in my opinion.

Can't argue when you put it like that.

Unlike many Snooker Island posters, the players on the World Snooker tour consider the UK and Masters to be "majors" and "triple crown" events that are very important and that the players very much want to win.

One wonders why many Snooker Island posters even bother watching any snooker events other than the WC, if it is the only event that matters to them...

I agree with you, but the UK Championship is a rubbish show compared to what it used to be, and the Masters has always been overrated.

Sullivan’s Tour Championship win was much more important.

Its been a great achievement undoubtely. But he's still 2 behind when it comes to the most important event though as some people rightfully pointed out.

I do think 7 is out of his reach now but one more World title should be possible. If 2013 truly was his last World title it would be some kind of failure given how many big events , including UK's and Masters he's won since then.

The World Snooker Championship is by far the most overrated event in snooker. 17 days is way too long for a single tournament, and the matches themselves are painfully long as well. Most people don't have time in their lives to sit around and watch a single 8 or 10 hour match, much less several of them.

The WSC goes too far in the direction of rewarding patience and attention span, rather than just actual snooker ability. In fact, they should consider renaming it the "World Patience Championship", since that's what the event seems to have been designed to test.

But thats what it makes the greatest tournament. And the hardest to win.
Just playing well isnt enough. You need patience, stamina, a high concentration level. Its the ultimate challenge.

Its like the French Open in Tennis. You don't win the point just by a good serve. You need to play multiple good shots and a few long rallies to overcome your opponent.

Do you think that the French Open should be considered "way more important" than the Australian, Wimbledon, or U.S. Open?

No. They are obviously all equal.

But if there's one Tennis tournament which can be compared to the Snooker World Championship its without a doubt the French Open. That was my point. The matches can be a real slugfest, it can be extremely challenging physically and you don't win points by just hitting one or two good shots.

If you don't think the French Open should be considered more important than the other 3 tennis majors, then why do you think the WSC should be considered more important than the other 2 snooker majors?
