Good Question. Your only allowed one.
Ali Carter is defending champ because Ali Carter won the Welsh Open last year so that moves him to number 1 seed. Whoever started of the season at world number 1 & is not the current champion of this, The Welsh Open, takes a step back & becomes number 2 in the world. Does that make sense to you? If not why not.

John's forgot to mention that at every event barring the World Championships at Sheffield the reigning World Champion is seeded number 2 (at Sheffield he's seeded 1) This systems to give variety to a system where you hold the same ranking for 10months.

Also interested about the additional knockout tourn thing though. I do stress additional, because for the Worlds, it should be available for everyone right the way through with simple, basic scoring system that everyone's comfortable with.

Fully agreed
normal predictions competiton as per......with an ADDITIONAL random draw, round by round knock out, this could easily be carried out by someone else as its only a case of comparing two scores and deciding on a system to split ties etc. as long as we have 16 entrants, were dancing, more than 16 and we have an extra round where a vast majority will draw a bye.....harsh but fair
less than 16 then obviously slide in the odd bye, simples.

Hey guys
I'm up for running a matchplay system in Addition to the main contest - obviously the main title will be the one as to who tops the table on Sunday night but depending on entries a matchplay system can be developed incorporating a group stage first round - days 1-3, (1 match per day) quarter-finals, day 4. semi-finals day 5 and 6, and final of day 7 and bonuses, this can make things interesting as the tournament develops we have whats basically like two session semi-finals and finals. I dont have an issue running it since I'll have each individual score on the computer anyway.

If we've more than 16 players, perhaps we could have seedings to determine who avoids the first round?

Thats an idea, - a while back I did a World Ranking list though it was kept well upto date initially that laptop broke down and I never really have had the time to collate the results back up again.
For KO competitons we'll have 4, 8 or 16 seeds depending on the entries, and half the seeds will come from the prev KO and also half from the league table. - Since the Welsh will be the first Prediction contest the first eight from the masters will be seeded.
for 16 we can have d1-2 for the first round, 3-4 for the quarters, 5-6 for the semis, and 7 and bonus for the Final, - depending on whether we have more we could have the prelims on d1, rd1 on d2 etc.

Well there's a chance we'll have it all and with developments of the matchplay system once entries are in.
