A lot of talk on Twitter about this with the players, fans and commentators weighing in, general consensus is the semis should be shortened. Higgins mentioned the Last 16 should be over two sessions and finished in 2 days instead of 3 in his interview after beating Bingham.

I really hope they don't. It could be the thin end of the wedge...

On a more commercial note why would World Snooker get rid of sessions and revenue when there is a call for tickets
Next season Semi Final tickets is £75 for morning of semi finals get rid of 2 sessions for Semi Finals thats £147,000 they will lose from the gate just in tickets.

I dont think any should, but if any should, it probably should be the Last 16 (25 to 19 frames, 2 sessions).
I would rather they somehow rejig the schedule to allow a full day off between QF and SF.

That would cost them about £150,000 in revenue.

You could change the second round to 23 and the semifinals to 31 frames, but anything more would damage the character and reputation of the World Championship. I don't see an issue with the current length.

The semis could do with being a couple of frames less tbh. Even bo31.

No. Enough with the UK being butchered or the Welsh Open being turned into a PTC.
What exactly is the gain to let's say shorten from 17 days to 16 by shortening semis or R2?
Is a certain player going to be more bothered to perform if it is only 16 days?

Have each match played over 5 minutes and get it all done in a day

Every example of matches being shortened made sense whether people liked it or not. Best of sevens allows 128 player tournaments to be played in a week. The UK format was shortened to allow every match be televised and although that changed when the flat draw came in there's still a lot more matches covered then previously. I could understand why BBC would rather have a best of 11 players in one session than having to cover matches that start on BBC2 and finish on the red button. Plus a 6-0 is easier to cover than a 9-2. If the UK had the full 13 days televised or the China Open given a few extra days then you could have longer matches.
There's no need to do any of this with the World Championship. It's got 17 days coverage with 12 morning sessions which gives plenty of time to cover it properly. It's a big enough tournament that matches ending a session early or only having a couple of frames in the last session isn't a big deal. It's the highest profile event of the year and reducing it would mean less money and media exposure.

Someone should definitely try a format where the matches get shorter after each round.

Why not have the World Championship played under Shoot Out rules?
Nobody seems to mind that it's a ranking event, so why not?

The only thing that I’d change is to reduce the semi-finals to a 3 session match played over 2 days. Everything else is fine.

Reduce tournament by a day by keeping 2 tables until final. There is plenty of time to reconfigure the arena between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Playing in the one table atena should be a privilege only for the finalists.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. If you can’t hack the schedule then you don’t deserve to be a World Champion

Leave it as it is. It is as much a test of a players mental and physical endurance as it is pure snooker ability.

With my idea you could lose 10 sessions and not harm the event.
