Build the perfect player

Postby Bourne

Choosing only from the tour at the moment, who in your eyes is the best at each essential attribute to make up your ideal player?

I have a primary list to use but you can add new attributes if you can come up with good ones. It can can range anywhere from the technically specific to mental aspects. Here is the list I have come up with:

Breakbuilding -
Long-potting -
Safety -
Cueball-control -
Pack-splitting -
Play under pressure -
Consistency -
Laying snookers -
Escaping from snookers -

Just to pass the time while we wait for the season to get under way :ahh:

Re: Build the perfect player

Robertson is one of the worst break-builders ive seen at top level but his potting so good he gets away with it.
but for longevity in the sport when the pots not going in he needs to improve that aspect of his game.

Re: Build the perfect player

Postby Roland

Yeah I certainly wouldn't class Robbo as a break builder. His best breaks contain a bunch of recovery pots much like Mark Williams. Robbo is at his best when he's got to think his way around the break i.e. when the balls aren't obvious. That's a pretty sweeping statement I know but I've seen him do it many a time. If it's easy and the balls are there, the sort of lay where Hendry, Ronnie and Ding would clear up, I don't fancy Robbo as much as when there are colours off the spots and a couple of reds on cushions.

Lol yes, Ronnie is many things but consistent is not one of them! It's been his undoing for his entire carreer ;)
It's almost impossible BTW to be consistent with such a delicate touch game.

Re: Build the perfect player

Postby randam05

He has had consistent seasons, but rarely. Just imagine if he had consistency of J.Higgins and S.Hendry. How many world titles do you reckon he would of had by now? shameee.

Re: Build the perfect player

Postby Wildey

Ronnie isnt consistent with turning up to play never mind winning ;) .

This is not having a go at Ronnie but when Barry Hearn said Alex was unreliable to manage well he played on hopping round the table with a broken foot.

nobody in snooker history has withdrawn from tournaments for whatever reason more than Ronnie.he is the most unreliable snooker player ever... mr inconsistant lol

Re: Build the perfect player

I am also suprised that people are picking Ronnie over Hendry in the breakbuilding department. Back in the day there was never a better breakbuilder than Hendry. Ronnie is a close second but Hendry is still out in front IMHO.

because ronnies snooker brain coupled with break building tops hendry

Re: Build the perfect player

I think Ronnie is a better break-builder than Hendry in terms of style and speed of thought but needless to say the pair of them are way ahead of the pack.

yes higgins is a bit behind, murphy can put a load of centries away when on form

Re: Build the perfect player

Postby Roland

Murphy is rubbish at cannons though and I don't use that word lightly. For a top player, he can't judge a cannon to save his life. If you're not outstanding at cannons then you have no right to be included in a debate about best ever break-builders.

Re: Build the perfect player

Postby Roland

Ding Junhui - now there's a player who knows his cannons!

I disagree, many forget that Hendry (when in top form) rarely made a mistake or ran out of position during a big break. Ronnie is a great ball potter and probably the best at recovering a break once out of position. For control and poised breakbuilding, its Hendry all the way still.
