they probably take into account the number of frames played to get that average.

That or they just pick names out of a hat.

Maybe they measure it more accurately than they show on the site.

Goes some way to exploding the oft quoted comment on here that Selby is particularly slow. Same average shot time as the likes of Maguire and Wilson and I can't remember the same people moaning about their slowness.

Selby's not even in the top 50. :chin:

He is equal eighth

No he's not. He's actually joint 45th...unless I'm looking at a different list to you.

It's all moot anyway since my previous post was tongue in cheek.

Yeah, it does seem odd.

Especially, when the guy ranked 50th is still only on 23 seconds average. I mean that's not that long.

Personal preference?

Yes, Selby isn't really a "slow player" in the normal sense, as these stats show. However, his tactical preferences, his (admittedly) brilliant safety game and his (admittedly) impressive ability to hold 100% concentration for very long periods of relatively uninspiring snooker often impact on frame duration.

I guess when people describe him as "slow" or "slowby" this is more what they refer to. Steve Davis would be in the same boat.

Haha. Maguire less so now hes used the championship league decrease his average time by a second!

I'll have to replace him with Liang in my argument of players with the same average as Selby but no one thinks is particularly slow.

Good post.

So those who call Selby slow are more than likely meaning they don't like tactical play to the extent that Selby plays it and equate that with slow play when its technically not based on these stats.
