Ronnie v Higgins Ranking Win Tallies

Postby mick745

With Ronnie in a good position to draw level once again with John Higgins on number of ranking titles won at 29 apiece, this shows the relative position of the two during their careers. Higgins was once 6 titles ahead after winning the UK in 2000 but O'Sullivan has pegged back after a profitable spell during 2002-2005 and was three ahead by the time he won the Northern Ireland Trophy in 2009. Since then it has been pretty nip and tuck:

Actually, it shows he had a weaker era, since he never managed to win anything after he turned 30.
Coincidentally, that's the time when the trio of O'Sullivan, Higgins and Williams were entering their prime.

Had he turned pro at the same time as they did, he wouldn't have won half of what he did.

I disagree. I think if Hendry were ten years younger he would have enjoyed the competition more and would have competed for longer. He never would have had that expectation of winning everything.
But would the big 3 have been as good as they were when young if they hadn't had the opportunity to grow up watching Hendry?

I would love to see an updated list of the OP. Does anyone have time to add to it?

Ronnie really took control of this by having a 7 (ranking) title lead. And I highly doubt Higgins will ever catch him now.

Its fair to say that O'Sullivans career stats are vastly superior to Higgins now.

6 Worlds,7 UK's, 7 Masters, 37 rankers vs 4 Worlds, 3 UK's, 2 Masters, 30 rankers

Yes, after even Davis said he could be the greatest of all time following his 2011 world title.

For a long period of time it was a real debate who was the better player and in 2011 Higgins definitely had that argument on his side. And from 1998-2000 when Ronnie hadnt won a World title yet while Higgins had.

Since 2012 though Ronnie took the lead again gradually pulled away from his great rival. And now the debate is definitely over.
