Invitational Tour Card Holders

Postby SnookerFan

World Snooker has decided that Invitational Tour Card Holders will now be able to compete in any ranking event – rather than only those where the number of entries is below 128 tour players.

The current Invitational Tour Card Holders are Jimmy White, Ken Doherty and James Wattana and going forward they will be given the opportunity to enter all ranking events.

Where the total number of entries including tour players and Invitational Tour Card Holders exceeds 128, a pre-qualifying round will take place.

The relevant number of players will be selected at random from those among the bottom 64 seeds (excluding wildcards) to play in the pre-qualifying round, with the winners progressing into Round 1 (last 128) at random. Tour Players can only be included in one pre-qualifier per season.

Winners of a pre-qualifying round will receive half of the Last 64 round prize money and this WILL count towards the prize money rankings, but this only applies to those players who then lose in Round 1. Players winning a pre-qualifying round and then winning further matches will be paid the prize money as outlined for that round in the prize money breakdown.

Subtext: Barry Hearn has demanded that Jimmy White play in every tournament he enters, even if it means bucking over higher ranked players by making them play an addition match!

It can be always thought only in a way that everything what is being done is being done with a best possible effort. There´s no way to get around it. We can always disagree with Barry Hearn but never to underestimate his efforts.

I really don´t know what Jimmy should do differently. His strategies seems to be spot on. Perhaps he should just take on something more bravely and sees what happens.

Ken and James are doing what they possible can do. Jimmy is someone who could use a bit an advice every now and then.

At least we don´t have to listen to any music, it´s just a bloody erratic snooker we are supposed to be watching. So nothing flawless or false promises on the cards. Which should ease the pressure. At least I won´t be taking any pressures. Ok. Next weekend will be a calm one, and it´s just a beginning of a very long road. A lots of great players and no player better or more popular than the rest of the punch. If Mark Selby just happens to win he just happens to win. A lucky one. Only the actions can changhe the world, not the predictions, statistics or anything what is being written. Hopefully Barry is smart enough to understand that. So it is a free and unpressured word.

He likes bums on seats though. More people are going to turn out for Jimmy White v. A.N. Other, than David Gilbert v. Jimmy Robertson (no disrespect to either, just trying to illustrate how much 'names' matter)

Snooker players don't really 'market' themselves anymore. In the old days even non-snooker fans knew certain names and faces in snooker. Maybe shows like Big Break helped as well.

Nowadays its possibly only Ronnie that is known outside the sport and that is who people come to see (Jimmy as well obviously). Mainly this is because he creates drama and press with his randomness.

Maybe Hearn needs to promote the snooker stars more. Get them appearing on celebrity shows <laugh>

I'm all for bringing back Big Break - just dont tell Hearn or he'll make in a Ranking Event

And its funny you mention celebrity shows - Stephen Hendry is going to appear in Celebrity Masterchef
