New Young Players on tour

Postby mick745

Snooker.org has a list of the 123 players (so far) that will be on tour next season:

http://www.snooker.org/res/index.asp?te ... eason=2017

You can click on the column headings to sort by Date Of Birth. When I did this it was striking to see that 6 of the 7 youngest players will be Chinese and you have to go all the way down to Oliver Lines to get to the first English player. In fact Xu Si's name is not on this list as his date of birth is unknown but he won the World U21s so must be fairly young also.

Obviously some young british players may get through Q School 2 but I just thought this was interesting to note.

1 Yuan Sijun 29.05.2000 (16) China
2 Yan Bingtao 16.02.2000 (17) China
3 Chris Totten 05.12.1998 (18) Scotland
4 Zhou Yuelong 24.01.1998 (19) China
5 Lü Haotian 29.11.1997 (19) China
6 Wang Yuchen 05.08.1997 (19) China
7 Zhao Xintong 03.04.1997 (20) China
8 Lukas Kleckers 18.05.1996 (21) Germany
9 Alexander Ursenbacher 26.04.1996 (21) Switzerland
10 Ross Muir 06.10.1995 (21) Scotland
11 Boonyarit Kaettikun 05.10.1995 (21) Thailand
12 Akani Songsermsawad 10.09.1995 (21) Thailand
13 Josh Boileau 02.07.1995 (21) Ireland
14 Oliver Lines 16.06.1995 (21) England

yeah its not good. I think there should be more wild cards at events like English Open for young English players. China do it every year which allows their young players top get match experience. Jackson Page benefited from playing at Welsh Open.

That's why the Chinese revolution is on the way - when these players reach 25 there will be triple the amount of 21 years old's coming through to play alongside the top English breed such as Matt Selt and Paul Davison.

Yeah, I might add Jackson Page to that list. It's a bit early to tell how good he'll end up being, but that's what an up-and-coming player is. You never know how established somebody will be, until they establish themselves properly.

This complaining about not enough British players is so annoying considering 80% of the tour is British.
Excited to see Lü Haotian, he's spent two seasons on tour then two off and he's still only 19.

Xu Si's DOB now added. Of the 8 players on tour who are currently under the age of 21, 7 are Chinese. I was not complaining about this rather asking what people views were?

Personally I love seeing youngsters on the tour and wish them all well. I would also like snooker to be much more global, such as golf or tennis, and not have 80% of the players from the UK.

I fancy Yuan Sijun to make an impact next season.

But one thing which is learned only through experiences is that it only counts after being already down and out. To make it feel deserved. Young players just can't afford to sit and listen. Don't be a fool like the late Alex Higgins or Bill W used to be. But do it by yourself. To be Like a jojo; the more down you go, the higher you get.

Rhys Clark is bout 22 and Ashley Hugill is 22. Young british can't get on the tour at the moment look at Hallworth, Carty, Sargeant and Page is only 15

Tyler Rees is 18, Lewis Gillen and Callum Costello are also young players who I'm sure will make their breakthrough. The new Challenge Tour will be great for young howngrown talent.

I think it is meant the lack of talent breaking through is a big problem.
