no word yet on how the ranking points for the new players will be calcualted (and lost as events get replaced by new events on the rolling list)

Also how will the tour newcomers of last season who were survivors like Drago, Wattana who dont have any points from 08/09 to lose?

And what of tour newcomers who were on the tour in 08/09 and earned points that season?

Cheers Wild <ok>

The English dominance may be diminishing in the game but the majority of players are still English which points to me that this is largely due to logistical reasons (ie. the game being based in Britain)

In an ideal expanding world game where mediocrity is not rewarded, we will eventually see a large proportion of the journeymen British players wiped out as more and more foreigners progress into the sport and up the rankings.

Id love to see a nomination to the tour from the United States Snooker Association sometime in the near future too.

i think players like drago, wattana who was new on tour got 5850 for virtually 8 tournaments inline with the lowest rank player well if they got what that lower rank player got (cant remember who it was) well they should lose the points he earned in thoes 3 tournaments of 2008/2009.

Whatever way this is dealt with will be slightly flawed it has to be said.

but lets be honest how can they come round it without it being flawed.

strictly speaking they did not play in 2008/2009 tournaments so how can points be deducted but then they climb up the rankings because other players points getting taken away.

same with say selby/ding and higgins because of logistical WSA cockerel ups they didnt play in the barhain championship so when the second revision comes along after the UK Championship the only points they will lose is the points they got for the 2008 UK while others getting points from Bahrain and UK Taken away BUT Steve Davis who also did not play in it got points for a last 16 spot so they will get taken away and without his World Championship Performances Steve would be strugling to stay in the top 32 after the UK without some great performances this season. but thats life..

Regarding Selby the points he earned from Barhain and the UK was bare minimum because Mark Williams then a qualifier beat him in the last 32 so Selby Ranking will definitely be rising This Season.

Thats totally not true. He could easily get the bare minimum points again. Plus he could perform badly in the PTC too.

One thing too which a lot of people cant get into their head (those who are critics of this new system who say it punishes people who have lots of points to defend <doh> ) is that all ranking systems are rolling to an extent. This new system isnt the fastest rolling system (ie. totally up to date, updated after every event) but its far speedier than the Slow Rolling Ranking system we had before where one whole seasons results was replaced by anothers in one foul swoop. At least this way we, and the players themselves will quickly see whos rising and falling up and down the rankings, and the players will be in the mood to play better all season long rather than upping their game near the end of the season when suddenly its more critical. Now performance and reward is critical in every event. Start to slide and the slide could be dramatic.

yes but he has less to defend than say Robbo as barhain champion has but its great from my point of view it means players got to be consistent or they will get punished far sooner than before.

Amazing when you see Zhang's performance in Sheffield that he's so close to losing his place at this level, fingers crossed he gets some big results next season to safeguard that spot.
