Yeah, all-the-way to the semis, when it becomes first to nine. (The Final is first to 10)!

Befitting of a big event - indeed, in terms of frames needed to win the whole thing, it's ahead of the UK Championship. Only the World Championship is bigger in that regard.

(obviously not counting championship league - which isn't a ranking event!)

This tournament also has the 3rd biggest prize money of the 19 ranking events. For me, it's the no.3 competition. For now, I'd still 'just' put the UK ahead of it, simply because of its history and tradition as one of the Triple Crown events.

Jimmy White bows out at the first hurdle! He lost 3-6 to Andrew Higginson...there's a part of me that wishes he would retire! He's not the Whirlwind of an earlier era - he's now just a light-breeze!

A couple of results to raise-an-eyebrow so far - Theppy Un-Nooh lost 5-6 to Jak Jones, and Eden Sharav has eliminated Nigel Bond by a 6-3 score line, but otherwise all the 'favourites' have progressed from the morning's matches.

In form David Grace books his place in China after an emphatic 6-1 win over Rhys Clarke! Considering his recent success and that he has only a few pounds to defend from 2014/15 season, the Gentle Giant can reach even the top 32 of the rankings until the end of the season. Amazing (Grace)!

Ronnie 3-1 up in cruise mode now.

Break of 88, playing quick and good positional shots.

His safety play has been top notch this evening. Seems the 2nd frame might have been the turning point here.

Ronnie wins 6-4, eventually...

Played well to lead 5-1, then let it slip a bit, but Cahill took his chances well.

Through to China again. But first he has the European Champs in Romania.
