The way we're going they gonna rename a trophy after Ronnie :chuckle: That would most likely be a new version of Premier League, lol.

I'm thinking Power Snooker, being that Ronnie claimed it was more interesting than watching the World Championship at The Crucible.

The Ronnie O'Sullivan "Power Snooker Is Better Than The World Championship" Trophy goes to....

Am I the only one who thinks this is a bit of a gimmick? Yes, it'll possibly lead to the other trophies being renamed, but why?

Seems an odd tribute to name the trophy Steve Davis when he retired before the inaugural tournament. "As a tribute to Steve, we're renaming a trophy after him that he never contested...." Same if they did the Scottish one after Hendry.

At least with the Masters, Paul Hunter won it a few times. Hence the tribute.

Selty trying to add controversy that isn't there.

Matthew Selt ‏@MattSelt
If @WorldSnooker1 are naming the N.Ireland & English tournaments after Higgins & Davis then the Scottish has to be named after Hendry surely

Matthew Selt ‏@MattSelt
I think it's very disrespectful if they don't seeing as though he's the greatest player the game has seen and he's also retired

So, that's the:

Steve Davis English Open
Alex Higgins Northern Irish Open
Ray Reardon Welsh Open

.....just awaiting the Scottish....
The (Stephen Hendry) Scottish Open?! Surely!

Only the Scottish Open remaining, and Hendry would be more deserving of that than anyone else.

You don't say.

They could choose Ross Muir or Scott Donaldson. <ok>

They're probably saving Ronnie for when they rename the world championship trophy later this year.

Ronnie is too important to have his name associated with a tin-pot trophy like the Scottish championship.

True. Ronnie won the old Scottish Open the most times though.

English Trophy = Named after an Englishmen who retired
Welsh Triohy = Named after a Welshman who retired
Irish Trophy = Named after an Irishmen who retired / died.

Ronnie would have to change his nationality, then either retire or die to stand a chance.

Not really sure it's worth it, just to have a piece of silver named after him.

Saying that, they're taking a long time to name the Scottish one considering there's only ever going to be one person who it's named after. Maybe Hendry has refused it? He never really did enjoy congratulation of others.
