Aye. Tian was in with a chance to win in the decider, but inexperience showed when he broke his rhythm and took considerable time over which colour to take to guarantee position onto his next red and in the end missed the black to corner.

Ricky should count himself fortunate to scrape over the line. He started the match like a train, but a wins a win.

EDIT: Whoops.
Walden v Tian: 5-4
Bingo v Lawler: 5-2

Livescores tell me King won 5-0 and and Alfie Burden won 5-1.

Judd playing well 3-1 up

Haggis 1-1 v Gilbert

Lovely camera angle of Judd's dodgy cue action. Because of the way he feathers across the ball, it actually looked like he was aiming to hit about a foot off to the side of the red.

Wasn't Ebdon on about that at The Masters?

Pity they didn't get more of him as a pundit.

Maguire needs to reach the Semi to oust Ding but if Dott or Gilbert wins the tournament then Ding and Mags will be in Ponds Trying to Qualify

Basically as it stands now Michael White, Ding Junhui, Stephen Maguire, Graeme Dott and Dave Gilbert are fighting for 2 spots as a Crucible Seed with it out of White and Ding's hands but they are in position at the moment.

Looking at the rankings it surprising how big the gaps are in the 20's. I would have though any top 32 player would jump straight into the Top 16 after reaching a big ranking final.

I think mags game with burden will go very close the top 16 battle with ding will go to a knife edge :john:

Some standard in the Gilbert v Higgins match.

Higgins had had breaks of 92, 62 and 114.
Gilbert has had breaks of 91, 78 and 115.

Higgins made his century to lead 4-2, followed by Gilbert making his 115 to take the match to 4-3.

John Haggis through great pressure brown to seal it

Higgins takes it after Gilbert gets himself back into the frame but fails to get the brown safe, which Higs pots along with blue and pink.

Superb stuff. One of the matches of the tournament tbqh.

Yeah, pleased White has made it automatically!
But, it looks very dodgy for Ding now. He's got to hope Alfie Burden can beat Maguire.
But Burden has nothing to lose - he's finally reached his first quarter final (at the age of 39), whereas Mags will have the added pressure of the Crucible seeding situation...and that's a really big deal.
Finish 16th and you're automatically at the Crucible and will face a 'qualifier'. But finish 17th and you face 3 difficult rounds of qualifying to reach the Crucible - where you'll meet a 'seed'! Brutal!
