Postby roy142857

The Oceania Championships will be played in Auckland, New Zealand from 17th - 29th March 2015.

17-20 March Under 21 Championship
21 - 24 March Womens Championship
21 - 24 March Womens Six Red
21 - 24 March Mens Six Red
25 - 29 March Mens Championship

Best guess for the moment is that, as in previous years, the Mens Champion will be offered a Pro Tour place.

Quote from Barrie Jones, President of Oceania Billiards & Snooker "The Men’s Championships does still carry a WPBSA 2 year Main Tour spot, the 6 Red Championships carries 2 entries into the SangSom 6 Red to be played in early September. All the Oceania Championships carry spots into the IBSF World Championships ... in 2015".

Congratulations to Vinnie Calabrese :win:

Interesting question - given that Calabrese resigned his Pro Tour card to play in this (a card he would not have retained after this season given his ranking position), and with the winner supposedly offered a Pro Tour card for two years, but with a supposed rule that players cannot regain a place in the same season via one of these tournaments, what will World Snooker do? (Perhaps Calabrese has no intention of taking the place and Oceania snooker will put forward another name, but I seem to recall it's then down to World Snooker whether to offer a place or not)

I believe he will, and Matt does too. The "players cannot regain a place in the same season via one of these tournaments" I think only applies to players who have professional status. As Vinnie resigned his card, he technically had amateur status during this tournament.

Indeed there is precedence for this - Thanawat Thirapongbaiboon lost his tour card at the end of 2013/14, but subsequently requalified for 14/15-15/16 by winning the rearranged Asian U21 Championship.

On whether Vinnie will be at this years World Championships as an international invitee - yes, I believe he will be, but again, as an amateur. Of course, any money points he gains wont be added to the rankings because 1) he is an amateur, not a Main Tour player and 2) World Snooker have removed him from the ranking list!

It shouldn't be open to a player that was a Pro during that season its pretty clear cut to me but as always World Snooker has loop hole bullocks all over the place and as you say Thanawat Thirapongbaiboon did just that qualified via a route of a event that was moved from it original date..

But my problem with Vinnie is the Ocena Event was played during a season he was a pro and not after the World Championship when the season in question was over.
