The Return of Betfred

Postby Wildey

Snooker's biggest tournament, the World Championship, will be title-sponsored by Betfred for the next three years.

The prestigious event will be known as the Betfred World Snooker Championship until at least 2017.

This year's tournament will run from April 18 to May 4 at the famous Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, with the top 16 seeds joined by 16 qualifiers to chase the £300,000 top prize.

It is one of the greatest events in sport, and last year reached an astonishing audience of over 330 million viewers worldwide, televised live by 12 broadcasters in 80 different countries.

Betfred previously sponsored the tournament from 2009 to 2012.

World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn said: "We are thrilled to welcome back Betfred as title sponsor of our blue riband tournament and we look forward to working closely with their team on delivering another top class event.

"We recently announced that we are staying at the Crucible until 2017, so this agreement with Betfred fits perfectly and gives us a firm foundation to keep growing the event in the coming years.

"The World Championship has a rich history dating back to 1927 and the international audience we are now reaching is extraordinary. Last year's figure of over 330 million, in our key markets in the UK, Europe and China alone, was up 30 per cent on the previous year. That shows the extent to which we are developing as a global sport.

I'm mot much of a gambler, but that'll interest some people.

The gambling booth at The Crucible does good business, and some companies aren't as committed to serving the masses as others.

I forget which company it was, but one year at The Masters, the 'betting booth' was just a man sat on a chair, with a whiteboard with the odds written on. He didn't even has a table. Just a cash box. rofl

Disappointed a bit because me and Statman came up with a good sponsorship deal including prizes along these lines

Winner £20.00
Runner Up £10.00
Semi-Finalists £5.00 x2
Quarter-Finalists £2.00 x4
Last 16 £1.00 x 8
Last 32 50p x 16
Last 48 20p x 16
Last 80 10p x 32
Hi Break £1 (TV stages) 10p (non tv)
Maximum Break £1.47 (TV) 14.7p

Easily affordable and a Prize fund of £73.12 I'd be happy to sponsor it for many years to come

Not that we'll ever know but it would have been interesting to see just how much the rights were sold for in comparison to the previous Betfred sponsorship.
