As there are already too many upsets in a 128 player tournament, the Welsh Open aggravates to this situation. This year, we see an unprecedented record where the top 8 seeds all fail to reach the quarter-finals of the event.
Please discuss if the Welsh Open should stay with a best of 7 format, or be lengthened.

Yes. I think, it'd be better if we had the best of 9's back.
Best of 7s shouldn't exist in a ranking tournament, it should be just a PTC thing.

I'm sure if Jamie Cope were in it you wouldn't say it's a mickey mouse line up
It's not the players fault the format is at it is.

Pros maintain their focus in a best of 7 no issue but as you stretch the length only the best continue to maintain theirs.
I'd prefer a bare minimum of best of 11 at last 32 stage in all events.

Best of 7s are pathetic in a main ranking event.
Best of 7s are being done to death.
There needs to be verity. With 11 tables this had the feel of a PTC barry needs to wake up a bit.

So we come to our question.
Why did Barry decide on a best of 7 for this event?

Barry chose Best of 7s because it allows him to cram all 128 players at the venue and scream that there's a level playing field, despite the fact at these sort of events 8 players in each session are giving priority treatment and access to the crowds on a random merit order, leaving the other players to slum it - those it is meant to help.
Last 128 and Last 64 rounds should be played in cubicles with L32 onwards played minimum of Best of 11 and on rare occasions best of 9 - but normally Best of 17 or Best of 19.
