Snooker Panamericano, La Paz, Bolivia 26-30 Jan 2015

Postby roy142857

Snooker Panamericano 2015 will be held at the Club de Tenis La Paz in Bolivia from 27th - 30th January (EDIT 20Dec14 - now announced there'll be a qualifying round on 26th January)

The third time this has been held, and it gives a Pro Tour card (and entry to the 2015 WPBSA World Championship) to the winner as per the recent announcement by the WPBSA http://www.worldsnooker.com/page/NewsAr ... 83,00.html

I know Bolivia's Jon Porter won in 2011 at the same venue (1-3 December), beating Eduardo Rojas of Chile 5-0 in the final in what was described as the second championship. According to the Bolivian press, Porter was offered a Pro Tour place for the following season, can't recall anything about that myself. In 2011, players from Peru and Argentina also competed.

A 2013 Championship should have been held but did not achieve the minimum of four countries sending participants, so a 'Grand Prix' was held instead (13 - 15 December 2013).

The 1st championship was in 2004 per Noel Rodrigues' website (he was 6th apparently)

Previous editions have been ignored by the North American nations - Canada has just put out a short-notice request to their regions to help fill the places, clearly not having expected the announcement by WPBSA of a Pro Tour place being at stake.

Wonder if this will become an annual event?

Just noting that US Snooker aren't even signed up to the Confederacion Panamerica de Billar, leastways according to the CPB website.

Members countries are Argentina, Aruba, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guatamala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay and Venezuela. Probably some of these are non-snooker-playing as the Confederacion also cover Carom and Pool.

Pleased to say United States Snooker Association announced today they are now members through the American CueSports Alliance, who become members of CPB representing the US for both snooker and carom.
