WS wrote:World Snooker has announced that the World Open will not take place during the 2014/15 season.
The world ranking event was staged in Haikou, China, in 2012, 2013 and 2014, but the contract with the promoter has not been renewed.
Concerted efforts were made to secure a new home for the tournament, but unfortunately a suitable location has not been found to fit into the season's busy calendar. Options are now being explored for next season with the firm intention to bring the tournament back in 2015/16.
The event had been provisionally scheduled for January 26th to February 1st, 2015, and it has now been removed from the calendar. The qualifiers on December 20th to 22nd, 2014, in Wigan have also been removed.
World Snooker continues to strive to create new events on the professional circuit, which has grown from less than ten events to over 25 within the past five years.

Well, this subforum now looks rather unnecessary.

what do you mean? Just because a tournament got cancelled doesn't mean he's doing a bad job. Or you would rather prefer 6 tournaments per season?

Surely somewhere in Britain would have been willing to have this, or Belgium for that matter?

This is the first big blow Hearn has suffered since taking over. How many more to come?

God your a pessimistic little sod.
its hell of a job fitting in Tournaments during that time and by having to find a new country, new venue, and new host broadcaster to fit in to the time allotted in the calender proved impossible.
its not the last we have heard of the World Open.
i think its positive that the event wont be held in China its positive that the event will come back in a new country might even be on ITV 4 in 2015/2016 as a British Event once again.

Not only that Wild, but also the fact that the World Open after it's first year became just a regular ranker instead of it's "open" format it had back in 2010 in its first edition. I really think if that tournament is to make a return then WS should go back to that format when it was held in Glasgow.
