Not really.

Mark Allen always seems to do well in Wuxi. Mark Selby won The Masters on his first go, got the final the next year, then won the tournament the following year.

Winning a tournament gives you confidence, and a lot of players do well at tournaments they've won previously.

Fair point. It must make you try that little bit harder. It is the only pro tournament he's ever won though so does seem like he is particularly adept at 6 reds. (he's made 4 x semis in his career, I was looking on Cuetracker.)

So those victories are an anomaly in his overall career results. But not a weird anomaly. Just a normal one.

Yes, he does seem to do better when there are six-reds on the table than when there are 15. rofl

Though, Mavis' has improved over the past few seasons. He used to just be a journeyman you'd see turn up occasionally, when he'd made it through qualifying. But now he's probably only behind Barry Hawkins and Stuart Bingham as most improved recent player.

Witz pinpointed Barry Hawkins, Stuart Bingham and Mark Davis as 3 players that would fall away under Barry Hearn.

no wander he doesn't post here much anymore rofl rofl

Thais do like their variations on traditional sports! The six reds snooker variant I don't think is much different to the original, but their own particular version of ping pong on the other hand is really quite remarkable... :dizzy:

As well as the 46 players listed by Wild there are also 2 Oceania reps - Steve Donohoe as Oceania Six Reds Champ, and the runner-up Ben Judge. (In case anyone had noticed them in the field and wondered how they qualified).

What I think is that is it a really good that this tournament is in Asia! And this time of the year and season. But then what is it really lacking is the absence of Ronnie O´Sullivan. A quite logical that he isn´t there since that he has talk that nowdays he feels that flying is uncorfortable. Like the non-flying dutchman Dennis Bergkamp.. Obviously Ronnie has been playing in China many times, but he has also talk how he feels good in China and could be there half of the year. But why i think that this tournament is really lacking without Ronnie in there, is because of his break-building ideas and capabilities. When there´s just a 6 reds.....

I think that Steve Davis is a second important player who is absent here. SInce he is so good and interesting tactical-wise. How would Steve play the important 6 reds tactical things here.. I would had much rather gave him the wild card than to Michael White or Ken Doherty.

Nevertheless, should be a really interesting and a cracking tournament this!

Presumably same format as previous years, four from each group making up the last 32?
