When players have been in their prime+ greatest match ever

Postby TheRocket

So, as the title is saying. When do you think, players were at their prime/peak of their powers and when did they play the greatest match of their life (standardwise)?

I want to start with the the Big 4.

Hendry: Prime: 1989-2002, greatest match ever: 1994 UK Final 10:5 vs Doherty

O'Sullivan: Prime 2001-2008, 2012-2014 greatest match ever: 2005 Masters Final: 10:3 vs Higgins

Higgins: Prime 1998-2000, 2007-2011: greatest match ever: 2005 Grand Prix Final: 9:2 vs O'Sullivan

Williams: Prime 1998-2003, greatest match ever: don't know to be honest.

Keep going , what do you think?

Nice topic TR, I'll add a few more to those you already mentioned:

Hendry: 1993 World Championship Final; 2002 World Championship semi-final

Ronnie: 2007 Masters Final; 2013 World Champinship Final; 2007 Northern Ireland Trophy Last 16

Higgins: 2000 UK Champiosnhip Final; 2004 British Open Final; 2012 Shanghai Masters Final; 2013 World Open Quarter-Final

Williams: 2003 LG Cup Final; 2003 World Championship Final; 2011 China Open Last 32 (Williams lost this match 5-4 against Lee, but it was one of the best ever performances I've seen from him, he made 4 tons in that match, but in the decider despite making a 61 break Lee made a superb clearance to win it. The Best best of 9 match I've ever watched.)

Hunter: Prime: 2001-2004; greatest matches: All of his Masters Finals

Doherty: Prime: 1994-2003; greatest match: 1997 World Championship Final

Selby: Prime: 2008-2011; greatest match: 2010 Masters Final :irk:

Robertson: Prime: 2011-present day; greatest matches: 2013 UK Championship Final; 2009 Grand Prix semi-final

Ding: Prime: 2009-present day; greatest match: 2013 International Championship Final

Trump: Prime: 2011-2012; greatest matches: 2011 World Championship semi-final; 2011 UK Championship Final

J. White: Prime: 1988-1994; greatest match: 1992 UK Championship Final

And that's all for today <laugh> I may add a few more when I remember.

Yeah, what would be Robertson´s greatest matches.. Since you do have to start wonder a bit what is eating Neil Robertson.
Last season he knocked in 103 centuries. And now he has started the new season the winner and the runner-up. AND what I have saw him playing, he has been an alarmingly stupendous around the black.

Disagree about Davis. His prime began in 1980/81.

In the 1981/82 season he won everything except the world title. And it was one of the biggest upsets in history when Tony Knowles beat him in the first round of the world championship.
