Kobkit Palajin from Thailand who plays John Higgins has in fact played on the secondary Challange tour back in the early 2000s beating the Likes of Ben Woollaston, Mark Allen, Gerard Greene, Matthew Selt and Martin Gould during that time and has played in the World Championship 4 times last of which was in 2005 losing 5-1 to Kurt Maflin.
hes been off the radar at this level for the last 9 years but has come back in this tournament and after beating Alan Lin Tang Ho of Hong Kong 4-2 in the first Round he faces John Higgins in the Last 128 and currently 3-0 down to the Former World Champion.

If I remember correctly, he was two times R-up in important competitions : the 2004 IBSF World U-21 and the 2005 Asian U-21 Championship.

When you say only three years ago, I was surprised it was three years ago.
It doesn't seem three years since Bingham won the Australian Open. Time really does fly.
