Following the postponement of this from 4 - 10 April owing to the Indian Government not issuing visas to some countries players because officials were all occupied with the Indian elections (!), the event is now re-scheduled for 7th - 13th June - meaning the winner will miss the start of the Pro Tour season, hope they'll still be allowed into Asian Tour event 1 on 17-21 June ...

No idea if the players entered will remain the same.

Group stages have finished, top 3 in each group went into the knockout draw (so 18 players) with preliminary knockout round between the 4 3rd placed players with the worst record, also I've only just picked up that Man Ming Wa, who was removed and replaced in the line-up a couple of days ago, did actually play. Knockout results/draw as follows:

Preliminary Round

Aekarvee Angkam (Thailand) 4 - 0 Hritik Jain (India)
Ashutosh Padhy (India) 4 - 1 Nikhil Saigal (India)

Last 16

Muhammad Majid Ali (Pakistan) v Aekarvee Angkam (Thailand)
Dhvaj Haria (India) 4 - 1 Alireza Rezaei (Iran)

Siyavosh Mozayani (Iran) 4 - 2 Sanjai Amin (Iran)
Sahil Nayyar (India) 4 - 2 Muhammad Harris Nadeem (Pakistan)

Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon (Thailand) v Amir Tariq (Pakistan)
Sheldon Senagang (Malaysia) v Man Ming Wa (Hong Kong)

Hamza Akbar (Pakistan) v Ishpreet Singh Chadha (India)
Sittichan Chiewchan (Thailand) v Ashutosh Padhy (India)

Quarter finals

Dhvaj Haria (India) 5 - 4 Muhammad Majid Ali (Pakistan)

Siyavosh Mozayani (Iran) 5 - 4 Sahil Nayyar (India)

Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon (Thailand) 5 - 2 Sheldon Senagang (Malaysia)

Hamza Akbar (Pakistan) 5 - 1 Sittichan Chiewchan (Thailand)

A lot of nervous, tight play apparently - highest break across the 4 matches was a 63 by Thirapongpaiboon, no other 50+ breaks, only 2 frames across the 4 matches where the player losing the frame didn't score.

On Twitter David Grace is questioning how come Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon can use a Amateur route to get back on the main tour the season he dropped off?

Personally i think we should encourage the best players to get tour spots and if Thanawat enters and gets a wins he should get the tour spot. no point awarding it to mediocrity we need the best players possible playing on tour.

Semi finals

Dhvaj Haria (India) 4-5 Siyavosh Mozayani (Iran)

Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon (Thailand) 5-2 Hamza Akbar (Pakistan)

Final

Siyavosh Mozayani (Iran) 1-6 Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon (Thailand)

Dont know how it works does Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon continue his pro career?

Don't know either.

1. It's a qualifying competition for this season.

2. TT only got to enter because of the incompetance of the Indian officials causing the competition to be delayed

3. World Snookers rules APPEAR to say you can't use one of these competitions to get back on Tour the following season

4. Might they give him the place, but not until next season (2015/16)?

Who knows!

Feel sorry for the players beaten by him in a way, also Boonyarit Keattikun who I think is as good as TT and was in the orioginal event, but not entered for the 2nd try at running it ...

So because this tournament was (eventually)played after the 2013/2014 season was completed (it was originally scheduled for April I believe), Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon was considered an amateur and thus gains a two year tour card for 2014/15-15/16.

On a side note, Hossein Vafaei Ayouri has been given a special Wild Card to compete on the main tour for the 14/15 season only. However, will be given a full 2 year your card for 15/16-16/17 starting with 0 ranking points for winning the IBSF U21 World Championship.

Statement from World Snooker
