Richler Cup, Montreal 23 - 27 April

Postby roy142857

It's taken Snooker Canada two years to get this off the ground, but the Richler Cup, with 20,000 Canadian Dollars prize money, is at last up and running. Only attracted a couple of foreign players, both from the USA, one being 2009, 2010 & 2011 US Champion Ahmed Aly Elsayed.

Canadian qualifiers for the final stages include Bob Chaperon, Alain Robidoux, Jason Williams and Floyd Ziegler.

The event is being played in Montreal, with early rounds taking place at 147 Snooker, and the semis and final on Saturday and Sunday at Le Skratch West Island. A weekend pass for the semis and final costs 10 dollars and is available from http://www.snookercanada.ca/product-cat ... chler-cup/

Results so far:

Bob Chaperon 5 - 2 Alex Zhang
Yves Horth 5 - 3 Roy Zeng
Floyd Ziegler 5 - 1 Michael Ma

I'll be honest, not at all sure of the initial format for this ... but looks to me like they had opening matches to put some players to the Last 16, then the remaining players played a round robin to also qualify for the Last 16.

Some more results from opening matches

Lou Fiori 5 - 0 Justin Kluznik
Rodney Cuillerier 5 - 0 Bob Checaloski
Louis Fezakas 5 - 4 Stephane Martineau
Gilles Boismenu 5 - 3 Brian Butler
Ed Gelati bt Billy Martin
Alain Robidoux bt Jason Williams
Tom Finstad bt Eric Theroux
Dave Strachan bt Ahmed Mehaya
John Morra bt Fred Deland
Almed Ali by John Colucci

Last 16 line-up
Lou Fiori v Yves Horth
Ahmed Ali v Bob Chaperon
Floyd Ziegler v Louis Fezakas
Alain Robidoux v John Morra
Ed Gelati v Jason Williams

An aside, largely as it's an interesting coincidence.

Apparently 2 lost 1950's short films starring Peter Sellers and written by writer and snooker fan Mordecai Richler are to be shown for the first time since their re-discovery at the Southend Film Festival in May. Opening Gala tickets for 1st May have already sold out, but 5th May screening still has some tickets left.

looks like this

13 winners through, Martineau knocked out, remaining 12 losers in 3 groups of 4 with winner qualifing
strange only 26 players despite the large prize money
anyway, if someones bored of the WC, live stream here
