Scott Donaldson will be hoping Robbie Williams and Ian Burns slip up tomorrow, Williams can knock him out of the Top 64 with a win tomorrow - Donaldson would still regain his place through the Order of Merit but would have his money total reset to zero and continue playing Top 64 players in his opening matches in most full ranking events. Ian Burns winning tomorrow and Wednesday would have the same effect.

I mentioned yesterday Jimmy White's pretty safe as long as Williams doesn't make The Crucible or Burns does not make the second round at The Crucible. Actually there's also the danger of one of those things happening and one of the players a long way back on points having an extraordinary run at The Crucible (the most 'likely' of the unlikely scenarios being one of Kyren Wilson, Craig Steadman or Michael Wasley making the World Championship quarter finals - sounds unlikely, but who had expected Dunn would be a semi finalist in China?)

Tony Drago's Order of Merit position is even more secure than White's as Williams or Burns knocking Scott Donaldson out of the Top 64 simply swaps which player needs to be saved by the Order of Merit - so Drago simply needs Wilson and Steadman not to make the quarter finals, and none of the players even further down to make the semi finals (even Figueiredo makes the Top 64 if he gets to the semis).

There's one player whose position is almost the inverse of Jimmy White - if Jimmy White and Scott Donaldson were knocked out of the Top 64 by two of Robbie Williams, Ian Burns and Michael Wasley getting into the Top 64 and past Jimmy in points, Martin O'Donnell would regain his Tour place via the Order of Merit.

Can someone please explain why Steve Davis has lost his tour card because he finished out of the top 64 money order of merit please? I'm aware there are 8 cards up for grabs at Q school, which would appear to leave 120 other tour cards, so have 56 pros lost their cards? How does all this work?

Re: Dafabet World Championship Qualifying Rnd 3 (12-13th Apr

Thanks for that Roy

so round 3 gets underway with only 2 sessions of play today and 8 players will be a step closer to the crucible by about 9pm tonight.

They are all close matches to call for me the only shock would be if Alex Borg beats Jamie Cope hes only once before reached the Last 64 and that was in 2006 he lost 10-4 to Mark Selby after wins over Jimmy Michie and Simon Bedford.

So getting to the Last 48 at his 12th attempt would be a surprise.

Cheers.

Ok, so players can retain their cards by being in the first year of a pro card gained from Q school (but being ranked 65-128), being in the top 64 on the money list, or by doing well in Euro or Asian PTCs (the Euro order of merit/Asian order of merit route). Is that correct?

and also Amataurs can gain aplace by winning important Amataurs event like World Amataurs, World under 21 or European Championship .

Oliver Lines the son of Peter Lines will have a 2 year card starting next season as European under 21 champion.

Is it true that whatever route in, the pros only have two years to break into the top 64 money list or they get binned? And I'm guessing that any ranking points from the tour, if they fail, are also binned?

Yes, they get two years, or for one or two competitions (e.g. European Champion), a bit under two years.

Also, those missing out on the Top 64 but still on Tour because of the Asian or European Order of Merit are seen as REGAINING their places not RETAINING their places, so have all their ranking money wiped out and have to start again (Note amateurs can get on via the Order of Merit, displacing professionals they out-score - 3 of them from the Asian Order of Merit this year)

Edit - just to add, 3 places on the Tour are 'up for grabs' this weekend with the final stage of the Amateur Cup - viewtopic.php?f=275&t=4834&start=60

The chances of getting a card are slim, and the chances of survival even slimmer, and then there's making some income as well, slim. Very hard indeed. You really have to love snooker and be very good at it to even contemplate such an ordeal.

Ford's playing good but Luca's just giving it away. He hasn't got a safety game today and is missing easy balls all over the place. Very disappointing.

Haven't been watching but if Luca is playing the way you say then that's very disappointing, I think he had a good chance of beating Ford and he would have Stevens next who hasn't had a good season and seems to be lacking confidence.

Now at 8-1(is it?) behind it's all over for Luca.

Last year, and everything for this year, indicates 2 years, but with money ranking re-set to zero.

Personally I'd like them to be offered the choice of 1 year but keep your ranking money, or two years with zero ranking money - seems a shame that near-miss players like Sam Baird (with £42993 only around £3000 short of 64th) can't be offered the chance of taking a gamble on their own ability to get into the Top 64 in a year.
