Really, really mystified by the absence of some of the key Chinese players from this.

Xiāo Guódòng is currently in the last spot qualified for the PTC finals through the Asian Order of Merit but isn't in this and will almost certainly not qualify for the PTC finals.

Cáo Yǔpéng is just behind, and also isn't competing.

But more than anything, I can't understand why Liú Chuǎng isn't competing. Not only just outside the PTC finals spots, but currently also in one of the four places for regaining his Tour card next year as he's a long way outside the end of season Top 64. Anyone know if he is ill or something? This should be his big chance and yet he's not there.

Winning this would put anyone in the field into the PTC finals and give anyone who needs one a Tour card for the next two seasons. Reaching the final may be enough also. Here's a run down of some of the competitors and some of the reasons they're competing:

Robert Milkins is currently the last player qualified for a Top 16 automatic qualification for The Crucible, any wins here strengthen his position. He hasn't qualified for PTC finals through the European Tour, he needs a run to the final to do so.

Graeme Dott is chasing a Top 16 automatic qualification for The Crucible, he can improve his chances here. He's also has not qualified for the PTC finals through the European Tour, he also would need a run to the final.

Ken Doherty is currently the last player qualified for a Top 32 place which only requires one round of qualification for The Crucible, Doherty can enhance his position here, like Milkins and Dott has not qualified for PTC finals through the European Tour but needs at least a run to the final to do so.

Tom Ford, Alan McManus, Mark Joyce and Jack Lisowski are all within striking distance of a Top 32 place for the World Championship and can improve their chances with a good run here. None of them are qualified for PTC finals from European Tour, McManus is quite well placed, he needs a run to the quarter finals, the others need to reach the final at least.

Lǚ Hàotiān, Michael Holt and Scott Donaldson are all close to but have not wrapped up a place in the PTC finals through the Asian Tour, Donaldson is also closing in on a possible Top 64 place and a likely more favourable draw for the World Championships.

Barry Pinches is likewise closing in on a Top 64 place on the World Championship draw and would improve his chances with a good run here. A run to the final could mean he can stop worrying about whether or not he qualifies for next season via the European Order of Merit.

Anthony McGill with a semi-final run here can qualify for the PTC finals. Dechawat Poomjaeng needs a run to the final here.

Stuart Bingham, Ben Woollaston and Gary Wilson are qualified for the PTC finals, but currently outside the Top 16 seeded positions – a good run here could change that. Any wins for Wilson here improve his chances of being in the Top 64 and having easier first round draws at the start of next season. EDIT - Just to note, Bingham needs to get to the quarter finals, Woollaston to the semi finals and Wilson to the final to get past the points total of currently-16th-placed Neil Robertson. Reaching the final would also take Michael Holt past Robertson's total.

Jimmy White and Yú Délù need to accumulate points to retain their Top 64 status and their Tour cards come the end of the year, whilst Tián Péngfēi is close to a Top 64 spot but not quite there, and also close to being in position to regain his Tour card through the Asian Order of Merit, with Yú Délù also not far back on the Asian Order of Merit were he to need a safety net.

Lǚ Chēnwĕi is currently in one of the spots for gaining a Tour card. I’m not sure who the 4th player is currently as I’m not sure whether the player just behind Lǚ Chēnwĕi, Zhōu Yuèlóng, would be treated as having qualified through this - he’s already qualified for the Pro Tour by being IBSF World Champion, he's also not far off qualifying for the PTC finals - a run to the quarter finals might do it. If Zhōu Yuèlóng being IBSF Champion is given precedence, the last player currently qualified is Rouzi Maimaiti, with a whole host of players close to his points total - Chén Zĭfán, Dá Hăilín and Guăn Zhèn in particular are very close.

Zhāng Āndá needs a run to the final to retain his Tour spot through the Asian Order of Merit, whilst any reasonably good run here keeps alive his slim chance of getting inside the Top 64 by the end of the season.

And then there’s the whole host of players who really need to at least get to the final to retain their Tour spots – whilst they could (for instance) have a deep run at the World Championship, the opportunities are running out for Paul Davison, Craig Steadman, Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon, Chén Zhé, Lǐ Yán, Michael Leslie and Daniel Wells.

Saw on Twitter that their manager apparently forgot to send the forms or something. Really not on that something as careless as that could affect people's chance of remaining on tour, but too late for it to be changed now, unfortunately.

Thanks for the explanation.

Really quite stunned by this as SO crucial for Liú Chuǎng in particular, he's had good enough runs in the previous tournaments (2 quarter finals and a last 32) and really just needed the same level of performance here to be back on Tour. Sorry for all involved.

I'm sure Liú Chuǎng, Xiāo Guódòng and the manager must be hoping for results to fall their way so the Tour card and PTC finals place are retained, but it will need the best performers to either be those already ahead of them, or players a long way back ....

Is their manager Groove snooker or something? The one spends whole day in twitter?

Do you know if there is any bookmaker more with odds than Boylesports/Apollobet?

Thank you for the work Roy

The strange thing is On Q got Tián Péngfēi 's entry in ... or perhaps he does his own entry even though they manage him? And indeed their UK players such as Mark Davis and Rob Milkins are there ...

Davis took it 4 - 2

Daniel Wells just can't eke out the kind of run he needs to stay on Tour, Tom Ford whitewashed him today, shame for Lǐ Yán too (lost 4-2 to Xú Sī ), I seem to recall he lost form after some illness or other, can anyone remember?

Just a couple of interesting snippets on my147.com about Xú Sī following his defeat of Lǐ Yán.

He's a local player from the Dongguan area, born in 1998 and played originally in Dalang, and more recently in the Guancheng district of Dongguan. He says ""There are a lot of games here in Dongguan, like the Junior Competition, Division Series, etc. , often played match helps raise the level. "

An interesting pieces of advise for other young players in the tournament (bearing in mind these are google translations!) "ratio tables go fast, so take a little bit to be delicate, angles do not stay too. "

My Internet connection not handling the higher quality of Stream 1 at the moment (Tom Ford's match - he's up 3-0), so watching Barry Pinches / Guăn Zhèn on Stream 2 at the moment, nice break by Guăn Zhèn to pull one back (it's 2-1 to Pinches at the moment), guess the space is tight, at one point Guăn Zhèn and the referee walked into each other - fortunately Guăn Zhèn had it pretty much wrapped up by then!

Link for stream 2 is http://v.my147.com/show/46871.html - next frame just underway.

Ken Doherty / Lĭ Yuăn is on stream 3 at the moment - http://v.my147.com/show/46873.html

Re: Dongguan Open (Asian Tour 4) Discussion !!

Postby roy142857

Can't recall when I saw Pinches looking this sharp, great break to go 3-1, a couple of really nice reds there (one at a tricky angle into the centre), got out of position once but pulled it back with 2 good pots.

Yán Bĭngtāo's pulled 1 back on Ford so 3-1 there too, Doherty 3-0 up.

Re: Dongguan Open (Asian Tour 4) Discussion !!

Postby roy142857

The bad news ... Pinches got cautious and turned down an obvious potting opportunity on a longish red, despite brown being over a pocket giving an easy colour.

The good news ... he went for it on a tricky double, that led to an opportunity to stick the cueball behind the yellow which was close to the cushion, the snooker led to 19 points and a red left on ... he's now 67-0 up

Re: Dongguan Open (Asian Tour 4) Discussion !!

Postby roy142857

And Barry Pinches wins it, caution to the wind and a nice cannon on the reds to put one in the middle pocket ... wonder if he can play like this against better opposition?

Doherty won, Yán Bĭngtāo pulled another back v Ford

And I'm off to prep breakfasts and packed lunches ...

Re: Dongguan Open (Asian Tour 4) Discussion !!

Yeah and its like watching snooker played in a city centre. People walking past all the time. Ridiculous . 2-2 now.
3 walked straight past Graeme just as he was about to hit the ball.

Lĭ Háng took it 4-3

re Lĭ Háng's name, World Snooker and snooker.org have him as 'Li Hang' but my147.com have him as Li Xing

Reason for possible confusion is that the name ( 行 ) gets pronounced in different ways - Mandarin Tools offers FIVE different ways of pronouncing it - xíng háng xìng hàng and héng

edit - just thought I'd add the English translations of those when they aren't a name - go; walk; move, travel; circulate
