IF any main tour player withdraws from this competition, I really hope their place will be taken by a QR5 "lucky" loser, instead of awarding their opponent a bye to round 2.
With the new system of 133 (or what ever number it is) main tour players, amateurs have been really screwed over in my opinion, and this event shows it, having 109 fight for only 6 place in the last 128 stage.
So I propose that the 6 QR5 losers be ranked according to the results of QR2, QR3, QR4 & QR5 (frames for - frames against; I dont think just using frames for would work, because that would mean whoever won the most frames in QR5 would top the list) [I have ignored QR1, because not all players play at this stage, and maybe ignore QR2 if there are w/o given].
If more than 6 main tour players withdraw... apply the same to the 12 QR4 losers and so on....

Good idea but yeah, wishful thinking really. It would help them to get through the rounds if they brought it a round back if say 12 places rather than 6 became available, that way you could promote the 12 who reached the final round without using a player who had already lost which is where the "lucky loser" idea fails. You can't let someone who has already lost in the competition have another try.

Tennis use the "lucky loser" concept for all their tournaments... actually they use it quite a lot...
Its even been used in the FA Cup in 1999/2000, where Manchester United withdrew and Darlington I believe, who lost in R2, had another go in R3.
Idk what the situation is in other sports which are straight knockout.
Just realised something... arent these "top-up" players in the majors "lucky losers". I mean, they played in what is essentially qualifying competitions... didnt make the grade, but are filling in for players who dont want to play for whatever reason

Yes, the lucky losers from Q School. The point is though they haven't lost in the event they're wildcarded into.

Prefer it not to be a 'lucky loser', but if they know they've got 1 or more withdrawals by the time the final qualifying matches are due, I'd hope they'd draw lots to see which matches don't need to be played and fill the spaces that way.
Actually, there are competitions in the amateur ranks set up so every player gets a second try (for instance, RIBSA normally run a Double Knockout competition as part of the Irish Senior Tour).

Am I the only one who is tired of watching Luca Brecel? Surely we could find a better match than Brecel v. Clark.

that's the by product of Ding not entering the 1st 2 European Tour events and being outside the top 64 on the order if merit after Rotterdam

How can you be tired of watching Luca? Ryan Clark is a very good prospect as well in the mould of Selby so for me it's an inspired choice for a streamed match.

I was hoping to get down there this morning to watch all the amateur rounds but unfortunately I was very careless and didn't realise my MOT had expired so I have to get it tested today, won't be ready until 5pm so I won't get down there until tea time.
