IBSF World Team Championship 2013, Carlow 29Sep-6Oct

Postby roy142857

The IBSF have added extra events to their calendar, a World Team Championship (held only once before in 2006) and Six Red World Championship - both to be held in Carlow, Ireland between 29th September and 6th October. Not quite sure about the status of the Six Red championships, as World Snooker and the IBSF are jointly running a Six Red World Championship in Bangkok between 2nd and 7th September.

Hi
I am the current holder of the EASB 6 reds title.
Do you know if i will get an invite to this tournament? or the one in thailand?
I think there are european championships as well, maybe next year?
Its all a bit confusing, and any information you may have regarding these tournaments would be greatly appreciated.

best regards

First, congratulations on the win Matt!

The Thailand competition features non Pro Tour qualifiers from the continents, plus a number of the Pros. The European qualifying competition was played alongside the EBSA European Championship in early June, they just played down to the 4 qualifiers rather than to a final. Assuming the same happens next year (it was similar last year), you might be able to talk to EASB about entering you for the qualifying competition, although this year all the entrants for the Six Reds qualifiers were players who had been picked for the European Championship - don't know if that is a restriction. No harm asking though!

The problem from your point of view with the IBSF Six Reds in Carlow is that it is open to players who their countries have entered into the World Team Championship (any of Mens, Masters or Ladies events). The EASB can send up to two teams of two players to each of these, again you're in a situation where you can say you've got the track record to do well in the Six Reds, but will need to persuade them to pair you with someone in the Team Championship so you can enter the Six Reds. The initial publicity says that each day there will be six sessions, 3 for the Team Championship and 3 for the Six Reds. Don't see why they couldn't enter 1 team as the main team for the Team Championship, and one team based on who would do well in the Six Reds.

Hi Matt

My understanding is that each country will be able to enter as follows

Each country is allowed to send 2 teams of 2 players in Men, Women and Masters to the Team Championships. Maximum of 12 players
Each country is allowed to send 4 players of Men, Women and Masters for the 6 Reds.
Maximum of 12 Players
Each region is allowed to send the winner and runner-up of their continent 6 Reds championship.

All NGB's should be receiving entry forms from the IBSF in the coming days.

Regarding the SangSom 6 Reds in Thailand, the EBSA qualified John Whitty (England) , Robert Murphy ( Rep Of Ireland ) Kristjan Helgason ( Iceland ) and Robin Hull ( Finland ) whom all qualified for the event in Poland.
The IBSF have nominated 6 players for this event.
World Snooker will be sending 16 players.

The top 3 Irish teams are going really well, leading Groups A and B with +11 frame difference and second to Hong Kong in Group C. Not so good for the England teams, both on -4 in Groups E and F respectively. Wales 1 is on +2 in Group D whilst Wales 2 is on -6 in Group C.

Decent performance in Group B from Iran, currently on +6, with Amir Sarkosh being partnered by Soheil Vahedi, who is back from 2 years in the Iranian army.

India 1 and India 2 currently lead Group E and Group F respectively, whilst Australia's +2 currently good enough for 2nd in Group A.

A report on how the UAE teams are going, including wins for UAE 1 (Mohammad Shehab / Mohammad Al Joaker) against Wales 1 (Duane Jones / Alex Taubman) and Ireland 4 (Ryan Cronin / John Sutton), is here:

A close match in Group B saw Iran beat Ireland 2 by a 3-2 scoreline. Ireland 1 (David Hogan / Brendan O'Donoghue) meanwhile wrapped up their last match to finish with 18 frames won from 20 in the group stage.

In the Masters competition, Wales1 (Darren Morgan / Ian Sargeant) have won all 15 frames of snooker they've played, whilst the second Welsh pair of Wayne Morgan and Derek Hadigate lead Group D. Also doing well are England (Anthony Harris / Robert Marshall) and Scotland (Criag MacGillivray and James Rushforth), leading Group C and Group B respectively. Irish pairings meanwhile are in second place in every group.

In the Men's competition, Iran just edged Ireland 2 to take Group B. Other group winners were Group A - Ireland 1, Group C - Hong Kong 1, Group D - UAE 1, Group E - India 1, Group F - Pakistan.

The draw for the Last 18 (!) hasn't been published yet.

England pairing of Maria Catalano and Hannah Jones finished with the second best frame average in the Womens Groups, just behind Thailand's Amornrat Uamduang and Siraphat Chitchomnart, with Hong Kong pairings of Zoe Ng On Yee and So Man Yan, and Jaique Ip Wan In and Yu Ching in 3rd and 4th respectively. Other qualifiers for the Last 9 (!!) are Russia 1, India 2, India 1, Ireland 1 and Poland 2
