IBSF Under 21 World Champs 2013 Beijing 11th - 19th July

Postby roy142857

Entry closing date for the IBSF Under 21 World Championship has been extended to 14th June. Currently no Scottish or Northern Irish players entered.

Entries so far from the British Isles are:

England - Oliver Lines, Jake Nicholson, Steven Hallworth, Jordan Winbourne

Ireland - Andy McCloskey, David Cassidy, Daniel O'Regan, Daniel Dempsey

Wales - Duane Jones, Jamie Clarke

The Chinese team looks strong, all with wins in matches against the Pros - Lu Ning (wins against Nigel Bond, Jamie Jones, Shaun Murphy, Matthew Selt, Barry Pinches), Zhao Xintong (Yu Delu, Ken Doherty, Andrew Higginson, Jamie Cope), Zhou Yuelong (Michael White), Zhu Yinghui (Dominic Dale, Michael Holt, Daniel Wells). Zhao Xintong was one of the Chinese players who should have played in Q School but didn't get a UK visa.

And a good Polish team of Kacper Filipiak, Adam Stefanów, Michał Zieliński and Kamil Zubrzycki

Some other players of note:

Andreas Ploner (Austria)
Lukas Kleckers (Germany)
Mohammad Majid Ali (Pakistan)
Boonyarit Keattikun (Thailand)
Shachar Ruberg (Israel)

Ashley Carty has been added to the England team.

No Scottish or Northern Irish entries.

The Chinese team add Lin Shuai (wins over Mark King, Jimmy White and Li Yan) and Niu Zhuang (wins over Mark King and Stuart Bingham in APTC2 last year) plus the relatively inexperienced pair of Wang Yuchen (best result a 5-4 loss to Jamie Cope in this years World Open) and Wang Zepeng to the 4 wild cards from the Wuxi Classic who were already selected. Niu Zhuang was another of the players who missed Q School because of not getting a UK Visa.

Duane Jones of Wales appears to no longer be in the line-up ... looks to be replaced by another Chinese player.

Players are in 3 groups of 7 and 11 groups of 6. 56 qualify for the knockout stages, which implies 4 from each group, presumably the 8 best rated group winners get a bye to the last 32. For the better players the group stage should just be a warm up and jockeying for position in the draw

England's Jake Nicholson and Ireland's Andy McCloskey are in Group A, late Chinese entry Yuan Sijun, Ali Albaidli of Qatar and Austria's Andreas Ploner in this group too, not sure there's an obvious winner there and someone pretty decent likely to miss out on the knockout stages.

England's Oliver Lines and China's Wang Yuchen feature in Group B, Sweden's Benjamin McCabe and Iran's Alireza Rezaei also. Lines reached the Last 16 in 2012, losing to Hammad Miah.

Last year's losing finalist Zhu Yinghui of China is surely the favourite for Group C, which also includes Australia's Ryan Thomerson, Iran's Amin Sanjaei and Dominik Scherübl of Austria.

Jamie Clarke of Wales shouldn't have too many problems in Group D, Austrlia's Charlie Chafe, Mohammad Reza Pishvari of Iran and Ayoub Matug of Libya also in there.

I'm envisaging more of a battle in Group E with Ireland's David Cassidy (who reahced the Last 16 in 2012) having to deal with Poland's Michał Zieliński, Lin Shuai of China, Belgium's Jeff Jacobs and up and coming Aussie 14 year old Arthur Lin (who recently won the Australian Under 18's Championship).

ex-Pro Kacper Filipiak of Poland faces some tough opponents in Group F - Lukas Kleckers of Germany, Khalid Kamali of the UAE and Malkeet Singh of India. All 4 should get through.

Lu Ning of China must be the favourite for Group G, could be an interesting battle behind as I can't see much to separate Mohsin Amin of Pakistan, Kamil Zubrzycki of Poland, India's Nitesh Madaan and Finn Jesse Huttunen.

Group H sees another Chinese player as clear favourite - semi-finalist from last year Zhou Yuelong's main opposition likely to be Amir Tariq of Pakistan and Swede Al Urfy Bairaq, possibly Rahul Ajay Sachdev of India and New Zealand's Sam Bond could trouble those two.

In Group J Zhao Xintong (a quarter finalist last year, he lost to Hammad Miah) looks streets ahead of everyone, with the possible exception of Chinnapat Kamsad of Thailand. Russia's Anatoliy Remennikov has a high break of 26.

Group K looks a little tougher for Jordan Winbourne of England and Ireland's Daniel O`Regan. Thailand's Aekravee Angkam and Belgian David Corens provide the main opposition, watch too for Kheng Hui Daric Sim of Singapore.

Group L features 3 good players and 3 that might be due a breakthrough - In the first category, England's Ashley Carty, Thailand's Boonyarit Keattikun and China's Niu Zhuang. In the second category, Hong Kong's 13 year old Yun Fung Tam, Syria's Abdulkarim Maksoud and Libya's Adem Gerwash. The last-named did fairly well in his recent African Championship Last 16 clash with eventual winner Peter Francisco.

In Group M Pakistan's Muhammad Majid Ali is the favourite, Iran's Siyavosh Mozayani the most likely to cause him a problem. Also Nansen Sin Man Wan of Hong Kong and Mahmoud Elshourbagy of Egypt in this group.

Three players stand out in Group N - Adam Stefanow of Poland reached the Last 16 in 2012, but Pakistan's Hamza Akbar and Wang Zepeng of China are decent players too.

Ireland's Daniel Dempsey and England's Steven Hallworth are in Group P, where the favourite is probably Israel's Shachar Ruberg. Egypt's Abdelrahman Abdelhamid shouldn't be dismissed, and interesting to see how Kengo Suzuki of Japan goes in this.

A short interview with Pakistan's Muhammad Majid about his prospects in this:

http://tribune.com.pk/story/574664/worl ... n-beijing/

A couple of extra Chinese players, Zhang Yong (who beat Matthew Stevens in APTC 3 last year) and Fang Xiongman (whose best PTC result is a 4-2 loss to Jack Lisowski in June), have been added as a result of no-shows.

Don't know who Fang Xiongman is replacing in Group F (whoever was the lowest ranked player in the group), but he's already made a good start by beating one of the favourites for the group. And Thailand's Aekravee Angkam has been switched to Group F from Group K, replacing Germany's Lukas Kleckers, with Zhang Yong taking Angkam's place in Group K.

Some early results, 14 year old Arthur Lin and 13 year old Yuan Sijun could be stars of the future:

Arthur Lin (Australia) 4 - 3 David Cassidy (Ireland)
Yuan Sijun (China) 4 - 2 Jake Nicholson (England)
Fang Xiongman (China) 4 - 2 Khalid Kamali (UAE)
Jamie Clarke (Wales) 4 - 0 Nikolay Krivda (Russia)
Muhammad Majid Ali (Pakistan) 4 - 1 Mikey Stewart (New Zealand)
Mohsin Amin (Pakistan) 4 - 0 Jesse Huttunen (Finland)
Kamil Zubrzycki (Poland) 4 - 1 Nitesh Madan (India)
Ashley Carty (England) 4 - 2 Adem Gerwash (Libya)
Daniel O'Regan (Ireland) 4 - 0 David Corens (Belgium)
Lkhagvasuren Tumurchudur (Mongolia) 4 - 2 Mohammad Reza Pishvari (Iran)

Oliver Lines (England) 4 - 0 Abdelrhman Abdelnabi (Libya)
Jamie Clarke (Wales) 4 - 1 Ayoub Matug (Libya)

Siyavvosh Mozayani (Iran) 4 - 3 Belan Sharif (Sweden)
Charlie Chafe (Australia) 4 - 1 Lkhagvasuren Tumurchudur (Mongolia)

Kacper Filipiak (Poland) 4 – 3 Aekravee Angkam (Thailand) - leaves both on 2 wins in Group F after everyone has played 3 matches, late entry Fang Xiongman is the only unbeaten player. Hamza Akbar of Pakistan and Wang Zepang of China both with 2 wins and 2 losses. Markus Pfistermüller of Austria has one win and Mongolian youngster Bilguun Batjambal has only won 2 frames.

Fairly tight at the top of Group P with Shachar Ruberg of Israel unbeaten but both Steven Hallworth (England) and Daniel Dempsey (Ireland) have 3 wins. Some good performances from the Aussies at this Championship, Thomerson and Barrett doing better than I'd expected plus the emergence of 14 year old Arthur Lin. Also an interesting emergence, New Zealand's Louis Chand who is also 14 may have only won a single match, but was pretty competitive, taking 12 frames in his 5 matches in Group P. Interesting article on New Zealand's decision to pick him for the 2012 tournament here :

http://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/local-n ... ker-worlds

Group B
Abdelrhman Abdelnabi (Libya) 4 - 2 Alireza Reazei (Iran)
