Bond Holt Lee Advani Mehta for RKG-Khar Gymkhana

Postby roy142857

Confirmed players at the RKG-Khar Gymkhana Snooker Masters 2013 Pr0-Am event in Mumbai from 6th - 13th May are Jamie Jones, Pankaj Advani, Yasin Merchant, Aditya Mehta and Anthony McGill. Apparently also interested in playing are Nigel Bond and the currently-suspended Stephen Lee. There are also 90 players competing in a qualifying tournament.

Re: McGill Jones Advani Mehta for RKG-Khar Gymkhana (& Lee!?

Postby roy142857

Interested to see some players more noted for pool have entered this and come through qualifying - qualifiers include former 9 ball Indian Champion Sandeep Gulati and former 8 ball Champion Sumit Talwar (beat Sourav Kothari 4 - 3). Other qualifiers so far are Dharminder Lilly, Rafath Habib (Snooker Doubles Champion at the 2002 Asian Games), J Varun Kumar, R Girish, Ashok Subramaniam and Faisal Khan.

The 3rd of the 4 qualifying tournaments has just started.

McGill Stevens Lee Advani Mehta for RKG Gymkhana big prize

Postby roy142857

The publicity from the organisers about the upcoming 4th qualifying competition now names Matthew Stevens instead of Jamie Jones, and lists Stephen Lee too ... to quote:

"The Prize money for the Qualifying round at Club Palazo, Pune is as follows Top 4 : Rs 25,000 each + Main Draw Entry, Quarter Finalists : Rs 10,000 each, Pre-Quarter Finalists : Rs 5,000 each, Top 32 : Rs 2,000 each

For the main event, we have these 16 qualifiers to be joined by Stephen Lee (UK), Anthony Mcgill (UK), Mathew Stevens (UK), who has verbally confirmed his participation and one more UK professional to be decided soon. From India, we have Pankaj Advani, Aditya Mehta, Yasin Merchant, Manan Chandra, Brijesh Damani, Alok Kumar, Vijay Nichani, and the 16 qualfiers.

The top prize for this event is Rs. 5,00,000/-, subject to taxation, and the minimum guaranteed prize money is Rs. 10,000/- to the group losers."

Rs 25,000 is about £300. Rs 5,000,000 is just under £60,000

Further changes to which UK pros are playing in this, no McGill or Stevens in the Groups draw, but Nigel Bond and Michael Holt are listed in the draw.

The Pros except Michael Holt have started their group games, fairly easy wins so far.

Aditya Mehta beat Siddharth Parikh 4-1
Nigel Bond beat Vijay Nichani 4-0

A few more results now in. Kamal Chawla looks like Lee's main opposition in Group A, Chawla's unbeaten after 3 matches.

Group B
Michael Holt beat Yasin Merchant 4-3

Group C
Aditya Mehta beat Sourav Kothari 4-0
Nigel Bond beat Shivam Arora 4-3

Group D has the best of the qualifiers it appears, Pankaj Advani will need to be on good form to deal with Sundeep Gulati and Shahbaaz Adil Khan, they're both unbeaten at the moment with 3 and 2 wins respectively.

I'm sure if Lee wins it will create a few whispers!

On the current exchange rate winner gets about £59,400, but that's subject to local tax (which I don't know the rate for).

the winner gets £59,400??? Wow, that's massive for a pro am.

Yasin Merchant beat Himanshu Jain 4-1
Michael Holt beat Manan Chandra 4-0

(From a couple of days ago, but Parikh's surprise loss could prove significant)
Sourav Kothari beat Nigel Bond 4-2
Siddharth Parikh beat Nigel Bond 4-2
Siddharth Parikh beat Sourav Kothari 4-1
Still awaiting result of Nigel Bond v Aditya Mehta

Parikh won 3 from 5 matches and has +2 frame difference, Bond has won 2 from 4 matches and has +1 frame difference. Assuming head-to-head decides it after frame difference (I don't know for certain), Bond needs to beat Mehta by 2 frames.

Group D

Shahbaaz Adil Khan beat Sundeep Gulati 4-1
(Adil Khan had a break of 103)
Pankaj Advani beat Mohammad Al Joaker 4-2

Advani and Adil Khan advance to the knockout stage

Last Group match

Aditya Mehta beat Nigel Bond 4-2
Mehta and Parikh advance from Group C

Quarter final line-up:

Stephen Lee v Yasin Merchant
(Merchant is the organiser of the event!)
Shahbaaz Khan v Michael Holt

Aditya Mehta v Siddharth Parikh
Kamal Chawla v Pankaj Advani

Prize money
Different report says a different amount as the prize (Times of India, earlier report was from a press release by the organisers), still pretty good but not as high - 22 Lakh (i.e. 2200000 rupees) - about £26,000 I think

Ok, given up waiting for the result of the 2nd quarter final, here's the results for the other three:

Stephen Lee 5 - 2 Yasin Merchant
Headline in the Deccan Herald an exaggeration - 'Lee drubs Merchant'!!!

Siddharth Parikh 5 - 4 Aditya Mehta
Pankaj Advani 5 - 1 Kamal Chawla

There was no point waiting anyway!

Appears Michael Holt and Shahbaaz Khan play the last quarter-final tomorrow, 10 am local time, seems strange as the winner will have to play Lee in their semi tomorrow as well (5.30 pm local time).

Advani v Parikh is scheduled for 1 pm local time

Quarter Final

Michael Holt beat Shahbaaz Adil Khan 5 - 2

1st Semi Final

Pankaj Advani beat Siddharth Parikh 7 - 1

Prize fund update - appears the 22 lakh covers all the prizes and isn't just for the winner (per Cue Sports India, probably more reliable than other sources!) - not a bad total for a Pro Am - my best guess is that the earlier publicity added an extra 0 and that the top prize is about £6000 - sorry for the misinformation!
