Wednesday 30th of January to Sunday 3rd of February at the Tempodrom in Berlin.

In its 3rd year the German Masters continues to go from strength to strength.

This year it's a return to how ranking events used to be in the 80s and early 90s with the top 16 being introduced at the last 64 stage as aposed to the costumary last 32 of recent years.

Won in the last two seasons by Mark Williams in 2011 and Ronnie O'Sullivan last year. But the World Champion will not be there this year to defend his title and top seed will be Judd Trump winner of the International Championship.

There is quality throughout the field though with 6 former World Champions Ken Doherty, Shaun Murphy, Mark Williams, Neil Robertson, Graeme Dott and John Higgins taking part. Also there is UK Champion Mark Selby, Ding Junhui, Mark Allen, Stephen Maguire and the ever popular Jimmy White.

Jewell wrote:Why is Judd seeded number 1 and not Selby? I know you said Judd won the IC but what's that got to do with anything as far as seedings for this go?

Seeding list was calculated in November I think the International was the last event before the seeding list was updated

idiot

So jewell by your reasoning the World Championship is "void" since 1947 when Joe Davis declined to defend his title and never returned to it. I see where you coming from ;-) … that makes Hendry a 7 times tin-pot World Champion (voids ROS and Higgins from their 4 but hey? ) . <doh> Still 29 other ranking wins to "get rid of" though. Some space for creativity there ...

So, off we go for another ranking tourney, this time the excelent German Masters event.

Must say, I really love this event, mainly due cause of the venue. The Tempodrom is for me at the moment the best venue we have in the game, the feel and atmosphere it creates reminds us of the unique old Conference Center that used to host the Masters for 30 years, so yeah its definately one of the most amazing venues we have in the game.

The only downside I can think of, and this is not because of the venue, is that 5 table setup... yeah it's a great setup and all spectators can watch all tables, albeit with a few distance away, but for tv viewrs we get to watch very few matches cause there's only 1 tv table of the whole 5 in the arena, so some great matches we cannot watch them, sadly. Still, it's a great great event, one that I look forward to every year, and even more so given how Ronnie won the title last year, sadly not defending it this season.

And of course the german spectators are one of the most enthusisastic, and they really get into the snooker world and create that unique atmosphere at that amazing venue.

I'm sure it will be a great event, and a return to normal snooker after the Shootout, though I still found that entertaining nonetheless, but now back to proper snooker.

Totally Agree

i think there should be Scope for a Roving Camera on the outside Tables Possibly showing that Camera on Eurosport 2 while the Main Channel shows the Match Table.

I do like the German Masters and think the set up and audience are great/unique and to be savoured. My only criticism, like others, is that we do tend to miss certain matches for lack of TV coverage. I would have thought the least we could expect is an overhead stream of the non TV commentated matches, so that all matches are covered even in the most simplest of forms. Other than that its a great set up and I also look forward to it.

I'm going to work hard all day. (Pretending you're doing something, and hiding the fact your posting on Snooker Island is really tough.) And what math do I get when I get home to relax?

Trump vs Wattana.

Still, it'd be kind of funny if Wattana won. :-D
