Group 1Monday 7th and 8th of January at Crondon Park Golf Club, EssexChampionship League Snooker was first introduced in 2008 and gave playing chances to players that were starved of tournaments and earning opportunities. It's very much debatable that it's required and past its sell by date by now with how the current World Snooker Tour has developed with players playing day in day out.
But it's back for its 6th outing with Ding Junhui the defending champion.
The concept is a group of seven, with top four going on to a knockout stage and the winner going straight through to an end of season Winners Group and the other three players going in to Group two along with 5th placed and the bottom two in the group eliminated.
Group 1 Players
Judd Trump
John Higgins
Shaun Murphy
Ali Carter
Matthew Stevens
Mark Davis
Martin Gould

Why not just write Monday 7 January, Tuesday 8 January? What is this 'of' all about?!!
As for The Championship League, why is it still being played? It is a glorified practice session. Snooker is now at saturation point.

some mugs must bet on this to make it viable ......it really is the biggest non-sense event going. Vodka is right, snooker is being saturated. Quality must come above quantity.

I didn't mind it when you could get it free over bet365, or whatever site it was. But even when there was bugger all snooker on, you'd only dip in an out of this.
Don't you actually have to have money in your account now, rather than just opening an accound with no money and watching for free?
The sad thing is, if they whacked it on Eurosport I'd probably watch the odd match. But, obviously, if you have to do anything more difficult than turn the telly on and change the channel, this is a complete waste of time.

I don't think anybody is querying why the players bother. I hate the idea that players shouldn't want to play, however big or smalle the venue.
I think the real query is why bother doing it at all? The only people who can see it are people gambling on it via a website. With the introduction of PTCs and more of a loaded calendar, this event just seems to be even more of a waste of time.

Tuesday 8th of January
11am
Judd Trump 3-1 Mark Davis
John Higgins 3-2 Matthew Stevens
Followed by
Ali Carter 2-3 Martin Gould
Shaun Murphy 2-3 Mark Davis
with that defeat for Shaun Murphy Judd Trump needs 1 Frame out of his remaining 2 Matches Against Stevens and Carter to send Murphy crashing out of the Tournament.
Stevens in 6th place could do with Beating Judd in his next Match.

So at which point do they start losing on purpose to guarantee themselves another chance of making money? The obvious answer is the final I suppose.

well look at John Higgins hes won £1,500 to qualify losing just 6 frames in his first 5 matches then lost 3-0 to Mark Davis.
if he Loses in the Final 3-2 he would be on £2,000 and Earn More Tomorrow and Thursday

I hope this defeat to Higgins hasn't dented Ali Carter's confidence ahead of their Masters match.
