http://www.worldsnooker.com/page/NewsAr ... 23,00.htmlwilliamhill.com has renewed its title sponsorship of snooker's UK Championship for the next two years.
Europe's leading online betting firm, who offer the widest range of sports betting and gaming products on the market, backed the world ranking tournament for the first time last year and will do so again in 2012 and 2013.
This year's williamhill.com UK Championship will carry total prize money of £625,000 and runs from the 1st to 9th December at the York Barbican. It will feature 32 of the world's best players, with Judd Trump set to defend the title having beaten Mark Allen 10-8 in last year's thrilling final.
World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn said: "There is a fantastic buzz about snooker at the moment, exemplified when young sensation Judd Trump won the title in York with an incredible display of potting.
"William Hill recognise that this sport is going places and they want to be involved, and we welcome them back with open arms to sponsor this outstanding tournament. They were clearly delighted with the amount of exposure they got for their brand from the event last year. The williamhill.com UK Championship is one of our biggest world ranking events and is watched by many millions of people worldwide.
"We look forward to working with the team from William Hill again with the target to deliver another exceptional event."
William Hill Chief Marketing Officer Kristof Fahy said: "The williamhill.com UK Championship is one of the highlights on the snooker calendar and we're delighted to continue our association with the event.
"Snooker has a massive global reach and our sponsorship will enable us to reach over 100 million potential customers across the world."

That's got to be good news.
There will be those that say we need sponsors from different industries, which would be nice, but it's better than a few seasons ago when we were begging people to sponsor events.

exactly, Yorks a great night out and plenty of suitable establishments, years since ive been there, late 90s actually.
having a look at hotels at the mo and there few and far between and well overpriced for the opening weekend so might end up scrapping this trip as already going to the PTC just after this and the Shootout in Jan plus will no doubt have the annual Spring trips to America and Crucible to be starting putting the pennies towards as well.

us Jocks prefer to find a cheap sh*thole for a hotel as we are lucky to be there 4 hours a day as were partying non stop the rest of the time unlike you
lads who are more concerned with paying over the odds for some poncy bit with a swimming pool, room service
and all that unneccesary BS

im struggling to find anywhere close to the town centre thats cheaper than £130 for the Sat night of the opening weekend, and even then its just a pub or guest house kinda place.
Sod that, ill just hit a casino all night and have a bird bath and freshen up in the car on Sun morning, either that or pull any old dog i can find for sake of going back to hers

Jesus £130 a night? I need to get renting my place out and go live with my mum for a bit
There's always a Christmas fayre in York in December and people do their Christmas shopping in York and have their Christmas parties in York so I guess that's why they're expensive and also shows I guess why York is a great place to host a big tournament at that time of year.

I remember. After I e-mailed World Snooker a couple of years back, and told 'em I wouldn't be attending, I began to wane and thought; "I'll just check out prices...." When I saw what they were charging for the hotels, I found it a lot easier to stick to my principles.
Newport might be a dump, but you can get hotels there for £40 or £50 a night. Even ones that provide fried breakfasts.

decided to take your advice instead and go and see how one of the PTC is ran and to have a look at all the new young stars emerging
whats the normal SP for drinking beer at these PTCs by the way? Can you just roam about between matches with a pint in your hand?

Depends on the set up I guess. As long as you're respectful to the players and not do it when they're down on the shot you'll probably be free to roam a bit. And if it's in Scotland, probably 10p a pint
