Maharaja Pratap Sinh Coronation Gymkhana Tournament 2012

Postby roy142857

The Maharaja Pratap Sinh Coronation Gymkhana (aka The Polo Club) Snooker Tournament is underway in Vadodara, Gujerat in India.

Quite a lot of the players who might have been expected to go through got knocked out in the group stage - Devendra Joshi got the better of Manan Chandra, Dhruv Sitwala beat out Manish Jain, Ashok Shandilya got through instead of Brijesh Damani and in the final group Rupesh Shah and Nalin Patel got the better of both Siddharth Parikh and Souvar Kothari.

So the quarter finals :

Kamal Chawla 4 - 1 Devendra Joshi
Alok Kumar 4 - 1 Rupesh Shah
Ashok Shandilya 4 - 2 Nalin Patel
Aditya Mehta 4 - 0 Dhruv Sitwala

Standard of these tournaments? Well, Adi Mehta is clearly the dominant player in them whereas he's still not quite 'there' in the pro ranks. A lot of the top national players would give a good game to our better amateurs, as would one or two of the players who only play in their region (India being a big place!).

Not much in the way of century breaks in this one, Mehta had a break of 100 but top break was a 102 by Sourav Kothari.

Edit (a quick extra thought) - Shahbaaz Khan who's at Q School was a semi-finalist at the Indian National Championship (gave Aditya Mehta a close game), probably his performance in Q School and that of Lucky Vatnani gives a fair indication of the level of these players, neither Khan not Vatnani particularly ahead of the other top players in India.
