Postby roy142857

The Justice S. Sivasubramaniam Memorial All India Snooker Tournament 2012 is taking place in Erode in Tamil Nadu.

Results from the 'Pre-Quarter Finals' (good name for a last 16!):

Aditya Mehta 4 - 1 R Girish
Lucky Vatnani 4 - 1 Sourav Kothari

Shyam Jagtiani 2 - 4 J. Varun Kumar
Manish Jain 4 - 3 Rajat Khaneja

Siddharth Parikh 4 - 2 Kamal Chawla
Divya Sharma 4 - 2 Balaji Reddy

Brijesh Damani 4 - 1 Khizar Raoof
Shahbaz Khan 4 - 2 Faisal Khan

So Jagtiani the only seed to fall to a qualifier, local player Varun Kumar, who was the only Tamil Nadu player to reach this stage of the tournament.

Really? Been a while since a Tamil surname that short :redneck:

Good to see Aditya Mehta and Lucky Vatnani go through. Hope they can give the main tour another shot.

I'm hoping that India produces a player like Ding or Robbo, who'll inspire an Indian revolution to match that of China. Don't think it'll be Adi, but I'll take what's there.

It would be interesting to see how competitive (or not) some of the Indian players would be against the Pro Tour players on 'home baize'. As well as Mehta and Vatnani (who seems to have slipped a little), Brijesh Damani and Pankaj Advani always seem to be competitive in these tournaments.

Shahbaz Khan hasn't sped through progress wise since getting to the quarter finals of the Asian Snooker Under 21's in 2010. Do wonder if the setback of the mix-up over his age which resulted in him winning and then being stripped of the Indian under 21 title later that year had a bit of an effect (both he and the Indian Federation had misinterpreted the IBSF rules as to when a player who had reached 21 years of age was still eligible). From what I've read he's a good talent.
