TOUR DEMOGRAPHICS

Postby Witz78

Having heard many claim that the tour was awash with deadwood and seems to be full of seasoned veterans otherwise known as journeymen, i decided to trawl the net to carry out some research and compile some stats.

Here is a brief summary based on the age players turn this year, the number of years since they turned pro, as of this year, and focusing on the top 64 on tour at the last rankings cut off point.

Derive your own conclusions.......

AGE OF THE TOP 64

25-29 - 11
30-34 - 10

What about a global demographic to show where the top 64 come from

OK

TOP 64

England - 36
Scotland - 8
Wales - 6
N.Ireland - 2
Eire - 2
China - 6
Thailand - 1
Australia - 1
Malta - 1
Hong Kong - 1

so 54/64 or 84% of the top 64 are from the British Isles

makes a mockery that the game is global really doesnt it

and of the other 10, they all come from countries with strong ties to the UK so the influences are there

Well if you expand it to top 100 it would read better and if you compared it year on year you'd see a trend starting away from British dominance I'm sure. I'll bet this time next year the top 64 will be less than 50 from the UK

it would, but bulk of them will drop off just to be replaced by more nominations from the same countries who then drop off too.

no offence to the Brecels, Kaspers, Pengfeis etc ranked below the top 64 but until they break into there and actually start maing an impact you can hardly even class them as pro players

for me, the top 64 are the true pro players

anyone below that is in the Championship League playing for promotion almost

what i might do is compare the top 64 to previous seasons to see how the non British Isles percentage has improved (or not as the case may be!)

I'd certainly like to see it given a little push in the continental direction by giving top ranked players on say the national tours in Belgium, Germany and Poland a place each year, but even better when they expand to 128 (which I'm still not sure is a good move), it would be good to see 3 or 4 players from each of these, China, India etc added - although they might not be the best players I think they'd stand more chance of improving with more match-play opportunities, and being part of a group of players I think makes it easier than being the lone player from a particular country.
