It would have. And again it's down to not putting enough attention and hands-on resources into those events. That does not come for free you know.

So five days of battling for ranking points for some, and for gaining a place in the PTC finals for others (such as Steve Davis, sitting oh-so-close in 25th spot on the Order of Merit).

And for others, gaining or losing the protection of being one of the top eight on the Order of Merit not in the top 64 on Ranking Points, and protecting their place on tour (and for the non-Tour players, potentially gaining a place). Was looking through this last night (touch of insomnia!), and I do wonder if some of those potentially in trouble realise it. Players like Barry Pinches, Adrian Gunnell, Tony Drago and James Wattana have enough points coming off by the end of the year that they could be in trouble, but not enough points to rescue themselves through the Order of Merit (Pinches and Gunnell are a long way short).

Given their current rankings, players like Rod Lawler, Andy Hicks and Alfie Burden must know they have a problem that could be rescued by a good performance this weekend, and of course its probably the best chance for those way down the rankings to get back on - just as an example, Luca Brecel sits at 89th in the rankings, but with 2200 points a brilliant run in one of these PTCs could close him up on the points needed (probably 3000 or more).

Of course, if you end up 8th best not in the top 64, you have to hope players ahead of you (on the Order of Merit) who are currently in the top 64 don't fall out of the top 64 before the end of the season, and if you're ninth you could still be rescued by players ahead of you on the Order of Merit moving into the top 64.

A quick list of those 'in possession of places' and those chasing (down to 1800 points) - I've included those from 56th in the rankings down, but excluded Michael White (57th) given that he hasn't many points to come off (and may qualify for the PTC finals).

(player-ranking-Order of Merit points)

Yu Delu 73 4400
Li Yan 65 4400
Passakorn Suwannawat 71 3700
Adam Duffy 75 3600
David Gilbert 68 3200
Liu Chuang 60 3100
Dechawat Poomjaeng 86 3000
Peter Lines 59 3000

Liam Highfield 70 2800
Andy Hicks 63 2800
Craig Steadman am 2600

Aditya Mehta 83 2500

James Wattana 58 2400
Simon Bedford 91 2400
Andrew Norman 72 2400

Jimmy hass Ross Higgins today with a potential with Bond in last 64 where as Harold plays michell mann who has beaten Shaun Murphy in PTC so hes no pushover and possibly Ding in last 64
