IF THE OLD PROVISIONAL RANKINGS WERE IN PLACE....

Postby Witz78

.............heres how they would currently look.

Bear in mind that under the old system the ranking points from 2 seasons ago (2009-10) would be wiped so this provisional list would consist of all of last seasons (2010-11) points plus this seasons (2011-12) points to date.

Some may say this list is now irrelevant given that the rankings are updated 3 times a season instead of the old annual end of seasons rankings.

But this list shows where players are projected to finish the season if their form continues as it is.

Theres plenty of findings to derive from this list which i will detail below.

1) The end of season number 1 race looks potentially like a 2 horse race between Selby and Williams already, albeit theres a lot of points to play for

2) Trumps going to continue to rise up the rankings this season and his top 16 place is assured for a while.

3) Binghams excellent form over the last year or so is going to be further rewarded

4) Gould set to end up in the top 16 eventually the way things are going, if not at this next cut off then the post Xmas one id reckon.

5) Robertsons slump over the last year since the World Open is slowly catching up on him and if he continues to have a poor season then his top 16 place will actually be under threat come the end of the season

6) Consistent guys like Dale, Campbell and Higginson if they continue to reach venues etc, will be in the end of season mix for a top 16 place.

7) Mark Allen will have to up his game a bit

8) Legends and long time top 16 residents Hendry and O'Sullivan facing an uphill battle all season to remain in the top 16, Ronnies going to have to play some foreign events, thats for sure and Hendry really has to do more than just scrape some Round 1 wins now i feel.

9) Lisowski should be on the brink of the top 32 come the end of the season, not bad for the end of his 2nd season on tour.

10) Mark Kings slide down the rankings will continue further if he doesnt return to form

11) Despite Wenbo showing a slight return to form lately, unless he continues it hes going to be on the brink of dropping out of the top 48.

12) Wenbos fellow Chinamen Song, Chuang and Guodong all looking good to stay on tour again.

13) Steve Davis illustrious career as a pro is in serious jeopardy now.

14) Long time pros Swail, Hicks, McCulloch, Lawler, Gunnell and Davisons tour places are in major danger.

15) The likes of Filipiak, Brecel, Pengfei and so many of the other tour newcomers will prob have to up their ante in the PTCs as this will represent their best chance of staying on the tour, thanks to the inferior starter points handed out to them.

Cheers for putting this together.

Mark Allen's for in majors over the last two seasons has been great but he has done little outside of those and that is reflected here.

Ronnie would have a huge battle to remain in the 16 and Hendry would do well to make sure he didn't fall outside the top 32.
