Unfortunately, I am out on Thursday, so can't watch the Mark Williams matches and Dominic Dale matches. I was looking forward to them.

On looking at the telly guide, the coverage looks a bit sparse. But will be watching what I can. :D What with this, and the China Open the following week on Eurosport, and the Chinalife tournament last week, I don't remember a time as packed with snooker before. We might all be at a stage where we're snookered out, rather then being starved of it for weeks on end previously. :D

Actually, looking at this website; http://www.livesportontv.com/snooker there seems to be more on then my television guide realised. <doh> The ever changing schedule of Eurosport. <laugh> <ok>

I'm going to be out Thursday night, and so will have to catch it on Friday night, and Saturday. I'll try and limit my drinking during the rugby and the football results, and come on here to spread some partially drunk snooker post related mayhem.

I think i am gonna miss most of it as well....

I will support Matthew as always, but I think this event has little importance for him. Maybe thats good cause he will play relaxed. I am sure, he eyes the match against Hendry in China that he knows he has the upper hand and also the WC.

i wouldnt be surprised if Lee wins the event. He is on form and good in small formats that suit him. Williams the clear favourite though...

Sonny wrote:Maguire has pulled out because his wife has gone into labour. Stuart Bingham is estatic about it as he gets a bye and some free ranking points.

wouldn't it make more sense to fly over Barry Hawkins who is next in line especially with Mags not due to play until Tomorrow Night not before 8.30pm .

if Hawkins cant go then McGill,Ebdon,Wells,Cope christ theres a PTC Order of merit table they can choose players from <doh>

Re: Party Casino.Com PTC Finals 1st and 2nd Round Discussio

Postby Bourne

Snooker has always had this problem with byes and never seemed to sort it out, just bring over the next in line in the order of merit to play, if Hawkins is unavailable just keep going until you get someone who can play, or if none of them are available there must be a local wildcard available, anything's better than having another bye, and it's not like they don't have enough time to find one

Nah I think that's an easy way out. What about other tournaments in the calendar, particularly when O'Sullivan is withdrawing ?

I know what you're saying, but in reality it's not viable. You can't say the top 24 progress and then let the 25th in at last minute so he can bag himself a load of ranking points. What if say someone is high up the rankings and their mate is 25th in the list and also 17th on the rankings list and then they withdraw?

It's top 24, if there's a bye there's a bye and the player who is still in progresses. That's the only way it can work.

Sonny is right. There is no reason to take someone aboard and offer him ranking points when they were not eligible, or if they lost their qualif match and are just lucky to be in the right "line".
If a player is late, they are docked frames, if they don't turn up they lose the match and their opponent takes the winners points. Not perfect but not subject to complains by fellow qualifiers or non eligible players.

There should be a way of re-structuring the ranking points, like tennis where top-32 get byes in R1 and if they lose in R2, they get the same points that a loser in R1 would have got.
Also why should Cope have got in the top 16 at the start of the season if he didn't qualify by right ?

It just stinks of bad organisation.

Don't get what you're saying re: Cope :chin:

I like the ranking system and points structure and seeded round set up that we have now. I think what we have now is as close to perfect as we've ever had and if I could change one thing I wouldn't. Just my opinion but I know how it works.
