Players from Canada and Pakistan are among the latest to enter the new Q School, which offers the chance to win a place on the 2011/12 professional tour.

Shahram Changezi, from Islamabad, and Brent Kolbeck, from Winnipeg, have both signed up for the event, which runs from May 11 to 31 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield and will have 12 places available for next season's World Snooker Tour.

The event, which costs £1,000 to enter, will consist of three week-long tournaments, with the semi-finalists from each to qualify for the pro circuit.

Changezi (pictured with Ding Junhui), age 27, competed in the Asian Games last year and beat Marco Fu on his way to gaining a bronze medal in the team event. He was ranked first in Pakistan in 2008 and has twice been national champion.

Kolbeck, age 31, has played competitive 'money match' snooker and now dreams of following in the footsteps of countrymen Cliff Thorburn, Kirk Stevens and Bill Werbeniuk and playing in the sport's biggest tournaments.

i think its Great that players from other countries are taking up the Q School.

with the Old PIOS Qualifying System over a season they couldn't see the benefit of traveling backwards and forwards playing in 8 events over months but now with this it means a 3 week stint in the UK.

wonder if Sickpotter is familiar with this Canadian hustler?

Itd be good to see a Canadian back on the tour though and could maybe kick start something big.

Ive honestly a new sense that in 5 years snooker could be 2 or 3 times as big as it is the now in terms of tournaments, prize money, exposure etc.

I still think the Qualifying criteria at the Q School is wrong and id rather a mini order of merit was set up and everyone played all 3 tournaments so we truly got the best 12 players consistently, than risk a couple of lesser players scraping a SF place that gets them on tour.
