WPBSA INVESTIGATE MICHIE MATCH
The WPBSA's new integrity unit has launched an investigation into the Marcus Campbell v Jimmy Michie match at the Caesarcasino.com Shootout in Blackpool last night after "an unusually high number of bets" were placed on Campbell to win. The Scot won the frame 32-21.

A WPBSA statement read:

The WPBSA has been made aware, by bookmakers, of suspicious betting patterns on the match between Jimmy Michie and Marcus Campbell at the Caesarscasino.com Snooker Shoot-Out on Friday evening.

The match in the one-frame knockout tournament in Blackpool was won by Campbell, 32 points to 21.

An unusually high number of bets had been placed on Campbell to win the match. The matter has been passed on to David Douglas, head of the WPBSA's Integrity Unit, for a thorough and immediate investigation.

WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson said: "We take the threat of corrupt activity very seriously and we are treating this matter with the utmost urgency. Having set up the Integrity Unit last year, we have the mechanisms in place to make a full investigation."

Fascinating comments. Can sympathise with Hendon having to deal with it. So Jimmy Michie has retired from professional snooker? Can this be confirmed by other sources?

what happening with the investigation between burnett and maguire match anyone know the latest on that they still investigating ?

as for jimmy michie everytime someone says investigating due to irregular betting patterns then from a spectator point of view such as you and me that doesnt really tell us anything let this so called anti corruption unit sort it out

but at the same time you can bet your bottom dollar michie like hann will not be given the benefit of the doubt like higgins was that still stinks silly sorry to mention it again but a case of cover up for the famous one and make an example of the peasents

Bloody hell, just read about this. Michie has retired as well, whats that about? :hmm:

Also going by the comments on Hendon's blog there is more to come out about an event earlier in the season.

Yea, he could buy a beach house with the £10k average a year he was making from the game.

i saw jimmy michie once first hand at the crucible he didnt come across as a very nice man a bit up his own bottom and the aggressive thuggish type

i hope these allegations are proved false for the love of the game however jimmy michie retiring give me a break hardly an end of an era

How long is it since Michie qualified for a TV tournament?

(and the shootout doesnt count)

Its strange looking at it, but having watched the match, it was surprising the ease with which Michie missed the pots does strike me as strange. Of course everyone should be innocent until proven guilty and there is no change in that here. The thing is as I see it is that if Jimmy was innocent why suddenly retire - I thought the same thing about Hann, retiring as soon as the allegations came about. It does strike odd!

The WPBSA board standing, blinking in the centre ring spotlight.
Recorded music plays [ Oom Pah Pah... Oom Pah Pah ]
All are dressed as sad sad clowns with red rubber noses and ridiculous hair.
Spread out in disarray about their overinflated flat feet is the evidence of their bungled card tricks,
mis-juggled balls, spilt milk and beans.
I weep.

Witz78 wrote:Michie always was a poor mans Ebdon.

He stopped wearing jazzy multicoloured waistcoats after Ebdon stopped

He decided to go bald after Ebdon did

But he was accused of playing in a match where irregular betting patterns were noted long before Ebdon
