Re: Why all the hatred for Marco Fu?

Love Marco Fu. The thing that annoys me about him is that he has 18 months of playing then 18 months of playing like a wardrobe.

I enjoy watching Fu's touch shots but overall he's too neat and tidy to hold my attention for long spells. Obviously I watch and appreciate him if it's a big match and I don't really have a preference for Fu or Ebdon to face Allen. I guess being there and watching live Peter Ebdon is more likely to produce the sort of match that gets the crowd involved.

not sure if john virgo likes him he was saying negative things about him non stop against maguire on tuesday night and willie thorne the man who managed to win the same amount of ranking titles as fu one that is one yes said fu sometimes plays like an amateur silly bald idiot

willie thorne must be the greatest player there never was talks a good game very knowledgable and imformative his commentary in terms of shot selection but that man got a high opinion of himself

as for fu i think hes an alright player nothing flash maybe a bit like nigel bond workmanlike and keeps out of the limelight i wouldnt mind if fu goes on to win this tournament

Well I certainly prefer Marco Fu to Peter Ebdon. Off the table he's a perfect gentleman, friendly and smiling.
At the table though I find him a bit too poker-faced for my liking. I know this is probably an asset to his game but it hardly helps people to get emotinally involved in the match. Also his inconsistency can be maddening at times.
But at least he's not got average shot times above 40 secs ;)

I Love watching Marco Break-build he hasn't got all the shots in the book and goes in and out of form but around the black spot he is as good as anyone his stun screw shots are immaculate.

I don't hate Fu at all... overall, it seems impossible to love nor hate him. He's not a player you'd scream against or scream on to victory.

His game is a little dull and doesn't stand out. He's very good, but never really outstanding. I don't dislike him as a person at all, I have no reason to. He's okay all round.

A reappraisal having watched Marco Fu in the Masters. From 4-1 down to Allen and the start of the 2nd session in the final he was quality. He had a different look about him, supremely confident and quick thinking, playing at a really nice pace and looking deadly. The first time I really noticed it was after the 130 break at 4-1 down. He polished off that break in quick fire style and he was already waiting with white in the D for the referee to rack the reds and spot the pink and I knew he was feeling good. Then he got a 97 break missing the green for a century, then another total clearance in the next frame and Allen didn't know what hit him.

In the final he was poor to go 6-2 down by the previous days standards but the last session he kick started in exactly the same mode as the second part of the semi. The red he knocked in at 6-4 was outrageous, then he laid a great snooker which Ding failed to get out of several times and it if wasn't the brilliance of Ding's snooker on the pink he could well have gone on to win himself. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Fu in action.

:santa:

Having said that we arrived a bit late and missed the first 2 frames of the Fu v Allen semi and weren't allowed in until the end of frame 3 so we waited by the door debating whether to get a coffee but it looked like we would be in any minute, but Fu played on for snookers for what seemed like half an hour and I was cursing him for not conceding. :redneck:

It was soon forgotten though.

I think we had a high quality final and both players played their part in it, both were excellent. Really enjoyed it.
Ding's joy was wonderful to watch. Fu was gracious as ever. Great! Well done gentlemen.

The Wembley staff can be a pain. One time, I missed the first frame, so a load of people are waiting. At the end of the frame, the woman on the door wouldn't let anybody in because she hadn't been told she could let people in. She had three dozen people trying to explain to her that there was no play going on, but she refused to let anybody in because nobody had contacted her on her walkie talkie to tell her to let people in.

Fu, Dott. Not well liked because there is nothing about them other than being snooker players who get on with it. No issues, nothing that makes people angry at them - other than they are ordinary

I like Dott more then I used to, but that dislike came from him needing several security guards to escort him from The Crucible one time, as he didn't want to sign autographs. He had just lost in the first round whilst being defending World Champion, though. I agree with you about Dott though, he has no aura about him. He tends to be one of those people who you forget was World Champion, even when he was the reigning champion.

Marco doesn't show much personality, but he is a nice bloke. I think my fandom from him stemmed from when there was only him and James Wattana playing who were Asian. No, it's less of a novelty. And also, weirdly, when he wasn't top-16. When he played somebody in a ranker as a qualifier, he was playing big names from the start. Seeing a John Higgins or Ronnie playing Marco Fu in the first round made me think; "Oooh, that'll be a good match." Seeing him be the top-16 player against the likes of Barry Hawkins or Marcus Campbell doesn't quite have the same wow-factor. Maybe, just like people say, he's not charismatic enough to carry the interest for the match himself. But I still think he's a nice guy. He seems to have time for people when he's wondering around the arena. Some of the top-16 don't. (See above.)
