I don't think Si is intimidated by Ronnie at all. He played mostly tripe with the odd good break v Woolaston. Woolaston was just even worse than Ronnie's playing.

No criticism of O'Sullivan himself as he remains a fantastic player, but how pathetic does it look for the sport that a 50-year-old man can show up after two months and cruise into the semi-finals? And might end up in the final against another 50-year-old?
This just shows he's the GOAT of this sport.
He is the greatest of all time, but the sport is also in the sewer water. Two things can be true at once, Johnny.
The number of high quality matches so far in this tournament has been very few.

Which I find really weird, because through most of the rounds there's been really stunning match-ups. The kind of match-ups you rarely see even in a good year.
But in almost every one, one of the players has played like dogshit.

It's shocking stuff. He isn't playing at all well and he has won 25 frames out of 34.
Well, look at it this way, should Pang be in the QF instead? A 13-4 destruction says otherwise and too heavy of a deficit. O'Sullivan isn't playing bad snooker, he's hot and cold. There is a difference.
Outright bad snooker is something like Selby's level against Woolaston. Selby could not get anything going, across 2 sessions he played at the same rubbish level. O'Sullivan looks average for a few frames then switches it up.
He's not playing well by O'Sullivan standards. I've seen him play five times as well but get a tougher time of it than he's currently getting. It has been a woeful effort by the opposition because the strength in depth just isn't there.
His standards are going to be different than another player's anyway but it's the 50s and 60s contributions that kill you, not the century breaks and there ain't anyone better than can just score a sizeable break even playing with a B-C game. He scored 12 50+ breaks in the Pang match, understated stat. That's a good level of scoring.

The one that's gone off the scoring radar is Xintong.

We need to be honest the Class of 92 are long past their prime and two of them are likely semi-finalists. The fact that no youngsters are anywhere near challenging them is damning. The tournament with very few exceptions has been low quality.

I think Judd did a good job this season of not wasting too much time and energy on tinpot events, as he has done in the past

It was only the Scottish and Welsh he skipped really. And the shootout, if that counts.

It isn't just that he skipped a few, but also that he didn't bother winning the tinpots that he entered.

Does the Shootout count
For anything?

(except the Ranking List, obviously; that’s a given)

I think focusing on the youth is missing the point. Guodong had countless opportunities in amongst to take frames from Higgins, but he went to dogshit most of the time. Same with Hoss v Williams.
Even from the 1st match, Peifan was good, but it was mostly Wilson playing like dogshit that made the match competitive. It's not like it was edge-of-the-seat chess between a couple of masters.

I haven't seen much of the Trump-Brecel match. Does Brecel make easy mistakes and leave Trump in or is it more because of Trumps good safety game and long potting?

I think everyone is being a wee bit premature. Luca was 5-1 down against Day and came back strong. Admittedly Trump is a different proposition, but I don't think it's wise to ever write Luca off, certainly after that display against Ding.
Si is also finding some rhythm now. Lets hope I don't jinx him.
