Noppon Saengkham first in. Settles for one. Zhou Yuelong 68. 67 left. Five reds remain in a cluster. Plays safe and leaves the white in the yellow jaws. Noppon Saengkham less lucky. Zhou Yuelong pots red but fails to add the blue. Three snookers required. Blue and pink making friends with the yellow. Noppon Saengkham makes 24. Opts to lay a snooker behind the black. Zhou Yuelong escapes and sets his own. Neither player on top in this exchange. Noppon Saengkham uses the brown to hide the red. Straightforward escape but Zhou Yuelong misjudges and hits the black. That's effectively two of the three snookers. Zhou Yuelong returns the favour. That won't be easy. Noppon Saengkham misses. Free ball. Zhou Yuelong on top. Noppon Saengkham trapped behind the blue. Misses again. Zhou Yuelong pots red. Noppon Saengkham concedes. 2-0 Zhou Yuelong.

Noppon Saengkham long red. Sends it up and down the table. Zhou Yuelong opportunity spurned. Noppon Saengkham in. 64. Cannon goes wrong. Left with awkward plant. In goes red number nine. Remaining reds asking to be potted. Inexplicably misses 12th red. Nevertheless, that's one back. Zhou Yuelong leads 2-1.

Conventional start to frame four. Zhou Yuelong with a long red first to strike. Blue follows but white says hello to green in passing leaving Zhou Yuelong a mid-distance red. In it goes. Has control of the white. Misses black when three balls away from sealing the match. Noppon Saengkham clears the reds. Attacks the colours 17 behind. Just the green off its spot. Down they all go. 2-2.

Zhou Yuelong asked the question takes on a long red. Blue follows, another red, opts for brown, misses ball and position. Zhou Yuelong safety short. Noppon Saengkham will be appalled by that reply. Zhou Yuelong notches a dozen. Safety exchange appears to have been won by Noppon Saengkham but none of the ten reds pottable. Noppon Saengkham unable to convert a long red. Worse leaves Zhou Yuelong a simple starter. Nudge on the black an unwelcome hindrance overcome. Succumbs to pressure? Misses frame ball blue. Noppon Saengkham unable to pot the starting red. Two reds on cushions Zhou Yuelong attempts a plant - close but no cigar. Noppon Saengkham in. Pink stays out. Frame and match conceded. Zhou Yuelong wins 3-2.

not necessarily even that, if one gives away enough foul points.

Neal Foulds once made an 80 break, and didn’t win the frame. I think it was against Willie Thorne, who got enough foul points and free-balls to edge him out by a point.
And this was before the foul and a miss rule was so rigidly applied, I do believe!

Strong final line-up. Top three on the 1-year list Judd Trump, Kyren Wilson and Xiao Guodong plus two others provisionally qualified for the Tour Championship Si Jiahui and Mark Selby. Accompanying them Hossein Vafaei and Matthew Selt both currently outside the places for the World Grand Prix.

Matthew Selt at the table 12 ahead but trailing Hossein Vafaei one frame to nothing. 41 break before being forced to play safe after butchering position. Hossein Vafaei should be disappointed with that response but Matthew Selt fails to take advantage. Opportunity Hossein Vafaei. Well-judged cannon to bring the last red into open play. Just the black left on the table. Hossein Vafaei 2-0.

Opening exchanges leave only yellow and green on their spots. First pot Hossein Vafaei. Break reaches 27 somehow misses all the reds and has to play safe. Hossein Vafaei superb plant then nudges white into the pink. Matthew Selt escapes. Hossein Vafaei plant stays out. Matthew Selt picks at the baize then pots a red. Yellow follows but straightforward red doesn't. Hossein Vafaei outrageous fluke. Builds 45 lead. Misses brown but fortunate with the outcome. Matthew Selt careless. Hossein Vafaei back at the table. Matthew Selt needs a snooker but unfortunately he's being asked to escape from one. Now needs two snookers. Matthew Selt two reds two blacks. 40 behind leaves a slither of red available. That's a better attempt. Hossein Vafaei slides between red and black. Not quite a free ball. Matthew Selt safety looks ok but Hossein Vafaei uses the brown to deviate the last red into the pocket. Matthew Selt concedes. Hossein Vafaei 3-0.
