I would have preferred this to have been played in February instead.

I've kind of accepted that it will happen eventually. I thought maybe it would rotate with China at some point but like the football, I can see Saudi getting more snooker
I just can't support that. So making the most of snooker whilst I can. Is it 3 more years at the crucible?

Yeah, I would hate Crucible losing World Championship but at least snooker is played in China and it is popular there.
Saudi is just utter bullocks, I have no interest watching any of the tournaments.
For an example I used to love FIFA World cup but after Qatar I just lost all interest and spark for the whole tournament.
I would hate to see snooker follow the same path.

Feels like we’re just seeing the thin end of the wedge. Enjoy it while it lasts, and try not to preoccupy yourself with the inevitable.

It is ridiculous to give the same or bigger prize for a single break than for the winner of the world championships.
Just an exhibition event dressed up as a tournament.
No doubt lots of appearance fee money changing hands.

Wasn’t the max prize at the Worlds comparable to winning the tournament for a long time?

Ronnie got 147k in 1997 but the winner got 210k. It was 190k v 147k in 1995.

Wasn’t there a high break prize on top of the 147k?

Aye, though technically getting a 147 didn't guarantee getting the highest break.

It should be played in June or July. So it becomes a sort of pre-season tournament.

Yeah, so?
They could offer £1m for the highest break if they chose to, it wouldn’t in any way detract from the World Championship. I mean, why would it? This is an exhibition event, everyone knows that. These are exactly the sort of tournaments that should be handing out appearance fees if the promoters feel like doing so.
I don’t know why some people get offended at snooker players being given the opportunity to earn big sums of money.
