What a win for Zehuang Long from 5-3 down he limited Yuan Sijun to 17 points with Runs on 102 and 89

I don’t see Hendry winning any more tournaments if he’d stayed on longer, tbh. It’s easy to forget that he was basically seen as an easy draw within the top 16 by that point and hadn’t even reached a final for 5+ years. He was already seen as a shadow of his former self. I don’t see where another couple of titles was coming from barring a drastic change.

He did very well, but he had a massive fluke in the decider, and made 89.

Indeed.
Hendry was pretty rubbish in 2012, I don't see how more tournaments and a rolling ranking would've helped him. He'd have dropped down the rankings quicker, if anything.

I could feel Hendry cry when he missed that blue, bit of a shame.
On a side note, nice to have these as BO11.

With the amount of tournaments there is there will always be that one moment where you get a good draw, opponents playing rubbish or you will peak for a week. We shouldnt forget that Hendry in his final year still reached the WC quarter finals, beating Bingham and Higgins. Ok, both matches were not high quality but you still have to beat them.
I don't see why Hendry couldnt have done what the likes of Perry,Milkins or Gary Wilson recently did.

True.
And he got a 147 in that match against Bingham. So nothing is impossible.

Yea but in 2012 Did anyone realistically see Jordan Brown, Anthony Hamilton or Mark King winning ranking events ?

Fair point, although I still think he’d have needed a very kind draw.

In that vid Hendry did with Luca, when Luca started talking about how practicing too much can be bad, especially when you're already playing great, you could feel Hendry was realizing he probably did this and I think Hendry was thinking he destroyed his game by practicing and tweaking too much.
Sometimes people say Hendry stopped winning because he didn't have anymore goals. I think that's bull. A guy like Hendry just wants to keep winning. He just didn't have the confidence anymore, when the class of '92 became so strong. Hendry lost something. His game wasn't there anymore.

Yes yes, Luca is Jesus himself.
Seriously though, I think Hendry’s said that he didn’t practise as much in the 00s onwards (family commitments and having a table at home and stuff) which is when he started to decline, so I’m not sure how true it is for him specifically. I think what Luca says makes more sense now with so many regular tournaments that can do the job of maintenance that practise would be needed for back in the days of tournaments every two months.

Well, saying that it's someone's day, means they had a good one, or a stroke of luck. Ryan's surname is Day, and he had a good day as he made a 147. Hence - Ryan's Day. It's a pun using his actual surname.

Hendry stopped winning when his cue action went. If you check his later matches, his cue goes out to the side on the backswing and pulls back in straight on delivery. This causes inconsistency. It works for Judd, sort of, but Hendry couldn't deal with it. And, for some reason, he didn't seem to address the problem. Maybe he was fed up by then and didn't have the will power to do what was necessary. Who knows?

Or he just wasn't good enough to compete with the top players anymore.

When you been playing and winning as much as he had in a short time you need motivation to carry on and he lost the edge after winning the 7th He has a very good record against the Class of 92
in the 2000
Hendry 11 Higgins 13
Hendry 10 Williams 10
Hendry 8 O'Sullivan 19
even in the 2000s when all 3 were World Champions, he had a better record than many of Todays Best players against them.

Mertens somehow loses a frame after Robbie Williams needed 3 snookers, to go 2-3 down.
